Outcast Omega Pampered by the Alpha General novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23 So This Was an Interrogation

Compared with Julian’s clean, composed appearance, Merrick looked completely drained.

His once-handsome face was bloodless, and he seemed as if he might collapse in his chair at any moment

At the head of the room sat the three instructors who had accompanied the assessment, several academy administrators Julian did not recognize, and a few military officers in uniform.

“The academy and the Seventh Legion take the death of Omega cadet Talia Vale very seriously. Citizens across multiple worlds are also paying close attention to this incident. As Talia’s teammates, both of you have been summoned for questioning. We hope you will not conceal anything.”

The academy administrator in charge swept a stern gaze over Julian and Merrick.

His voice revealed nothing.

Julian said nothing.

Merrick Holt, however, spoke first.

“Our squad had three Alphas, one Omega, and one Beta. As one of the squad’s main combatants, I killed multiple insectoids and covered my teammates’ retreat during critical moments. As for Julian Shaw…”

Merrick trailed off deliberately.

A military officer immediately urged him on.

“Continue.”

Only then did Merrick glance at Julian and go on, “He refused to cooperate with squad operations from the beginning. Worse, during the key battle against the S-rank insectoid, he abandoned me and three other teammates and fled alone with the Beta squad his roommate belonged to.”

By the time Merrick finished that sentence, his voice had actually taken on a righteous fury.

“If they hadn’t retreated at the crucial moment and left the four of us to hold off one S-rank and one A-rank by ourselves, Talia and Silas wouldn’t have died. Cole wouldn’t still be unconscious…”

“Julian Shaw, is Merrick’s statement true?”

The academy administrator’s eyes sharpened as he looked at Julian.

From his expression, he seemed to find Julian’s supposed actions disgraceful and intended to intimidate him with that stare alone.

Julian only answered calmly, “The academy uses assessment recorders. Check the footage and you’ll know.”

But as soon as he said that, Grant, one of the three accompanying instructors, spoke up.

“Because multiple S-rank insectoids appeared on Zerath, the hive mind interfered with our equipment. The recorded footage failed to transmit properly. As for your squad’s recorders, all of them were destroyed…”

He sounded hesitant when he said it.

Especially at the part about every recorder being destroyed.

But the academy administrator at the head of the room acted as if he heard no uncertainty in Grant’s words He looked at Julian again.

“Julian Shaw, answer my question directly. Merrick says you took the other Betas and deserted under fire. leaving the four of them behind to cover the retreat. Is that truc?”

At this point, even an idiot would have noticed something was wrong.

“What exactly do you want me to say?” Julian asked. “That it’s true, so you can convict me on the spot?”

“Answer the question directly.”

The administrator’s gaze turned colder.

He had expected Julian to be as frail and timid as the rumors suggested.

Apparently, the rumors had been wrong.

“It wasn’t that I left them behind to cover our retreat,” Julian said. “I warned them through the squad channel that a high-level insectoid was approaching. They treated it like a joke.

He looked at Merrick, who sat across from him looking weak and fragile, while his eyes hid unmistakable smugness.

“Some people are determined to die. Why would I die with them?”

“You!”

The administrator nodded slowly.

Only now did he belatedly realize how troublesome Julian was.

The problem was that Julian did not care about his expression at all. He continued on his own.

“As for covering our retreat? Please. They couldn’t beat that Golden Tarric Scorpion either. They just ran slower, so the scorpion caught up with them.”

“Bullshit…”

Merrick snapped at Julian, only to start coughing violently,

To play his part properly for the family, he had deliberately had someone shatter his spirit form, leaving him visibly weak.

“And that wasn’t all,” Julian said. “After that, Merrick ordered Silas to splash me with Omega pheromone solution so they could use me to draw away two high-rank insectoids.”

The moment Julian said that, Merrick’s coughing became even worse.

One of the military officers finally could not hold back.
