Chapter 239 The Right Person to Enter
The moment that condition was written down, most ordinary front–line soldiers were eliminated.
Ordinary soldiers had ordinary positions.
Their voices carried little weight.
Finished
They were the smallest pieces on a battlefield. The deaths they had witnessed might have been just as brutal as anyone else’s. The only reason they had not fallen into illusions themselves was that the phosphor dust had never touched them.
If they entered and failed to pull the patient out, they might sink too.
The next problem was location.
Orion knew the overall battlefield.
Even when he had not personally commanded a battle, he had reviewed it countless times and participated in strategic decisions.
That was why, the moment he opened his eyes inside Lena’s illusion, he could find her quickly and break her out.
A normal soldier, or even a junior officer, would likely enter blind.
By the time they found the patient, the passage Julian built might already have collapsed.
So Rowan wrote down the second condition.
The entrant had to locate the patient quickly and accurately.
There was also a third.
The patient had to know this person, trust them, or even respect them.
After those three requirements, Julian added one more.
“S–rank or above. If they are too weak, I might slip and smash them stupid.”
Everyone: “?”
Maybe do not slip?
Julian looked completely innocent.
“Attack is my instinct. The violet lotus is an offensive form. If they cannot take even a basic hit, how is that my fault?”
Everyone smiled.
Right.

Of course it was not your fault.
What bad intentions could a gifted little monster have?
Then the gifted little monster added another line.
“Also, it is best to keep the entrants to a fixed few.”
According to Julian, the descent into an illusion varied from person to person.
Finished
Someone like Orion was talented enough to land directly into the version of himself inside the illusion
Someone less gifted might need several steps just to enter successfully.
Considering the danger of descent and how much control Julian could safely maintain, a small group of experienced entrants would be better than constantly changing people.
Everyone understood.
That was reasonable.
Then Rowan combined all the conditions and found that their Alpha could rescue fewer than ten people.
“Wait,” Caleb Hayes objected first. “How is that possible? Our Alpha is brilliant, powerful, and practically blessed. Tell me exactly which condition he fails. Say it to my face.”
Julian stayed silent.
He nodded, fully supporting Caleb.
Then Rowan said, “These applicants are veterans, not fresh soldiers. Most are over fifty. Quite a few were injured more than twenty years ago. How old is our Alpha?”
“Thirty–seven,” Caleb answered automatically.
Then he closed his mouth.
More than twenty years ago…
Fine.
Their Alpha had still been in school.
No matter how talented, brilliant, heroic, and radiant their Alpha was, he could not have appeared on every battlefield while he was a student.
“The cases involving veterans over sixty, or even over a hundred, will be harder,” Rowan said helplessly.
The Empire had fought the insectoids for a century.
How many Alphas had died for the Empire during that time?
It was already difficult to find soldiers from older battles.

Finding commanders was harder.
Finished
Except for the First Legion stationed around the capital world, no imperial commander stayed away from the front.
Once they went, they stood at the front of the formation and fought the strongest insectoids.
Commanders had terrifyingly high death rates.
Any commander who had survived decades, or even a full century, at the front was almost always a high- ranking leader in a legion.
Major general.
Lieutenant general.
Admiral.
High rank meant heavy responsibility.
Heavy responsibility meant no time.
Asking those people to return for large–scale treatment would not be easy.
The plan was difficult.
Or rather, it consumed too much manpower and too many resources.
Rowan successfully shut Caleb down.
Then he looked toward Julian.
Julian did not look back.
Under Rowan’s gaze, he took out his wrist terminal.
Unlocked it.
Called someone.
A few seconds later, far away at the border, Atlas Ashford received another call from the child at home.
This child was probably insane.
Because he opened by asking Atlas if he knew how to slap people.
He also said Moonfall needed a lively old talent like him.
Atlas: “…”
Atlas stayed silent for a long time.
He was about to say he was not good at such things when the child encouraged him again.

“Granddad, two hundred–plus is exactly the right age to charge forward. If you do not know how to slap people, you can learn. You have to believe in yourself.”
Atlas: “?”
Was belief in himself the issue here?
Atlas rubbed his forehead.
He deeply regretted putting the call on speaker.
Because the old comrades beside him were laughing so hard their faces nearly twisted.
Their joy did not last.
Orion soon heard the laughter.
Two seconds later, Orion took the call from Julian.
The people ordered to return to the capital world immediately were no longer limited to the marshal.
Every old comrade under Atlas’s command was included.
