Chapter 240 The Slap Team
To Atlas, they were old comrades.
To the Empire, every one of them was an old general with a legendary record.
The veteran recall had caused a far greater response than expected.
The injured soldiers already at Moonfall were only the first batch.

As one of the Empire’s century–old terminal cases, the number of veterans trapped in illusions might not have reached seven figures, but six figures was certain.
That was still Orion’s conservative estimate.
Unlike the Alpha veterans with overlapping injuries, most patients trapped in illusions were physically healthy.
They were a massive group, and their chance of recovery was extremely high.
They might need psychological rehabilitation later, but no Alpha who had reached the battlefield was fragile.
Orion believed it was only a matter of time before they stood again.
“Granddad, honored generals, those veterans need your help. The Second and Third Legions need it too.”
When Orion asked so solemnly, what could Atlas and the others say?
Go, then.
If they were returning to slap people awake, every person on that starship would return.
No one escaped.
Once the plan was settled, Orion finally breathed a little easier.
Rowan immediately gathered the nine patients who met the conditions and brought them together so Julian and Orion could start treatment.
When Orion slapped Lena, there had still been some hesitation in the movement.
After entering several more illusions, however, he discovered that every illusion dropped him into deep
space.
Deep space had one convenient trait.
Sound did not travel.
So Orion’s slaps became cleaner and cleaner.
Fast.

Heavy.
Accurate.
Finished
If the patient only froze after the first slap while the illusion tried to keep running, then one slap was not enough.
Add a second.
The hardest case belonged to an S–rank major from the Fourth Legion.
During that battle, Orion had still been a fourth–year academy student sent to the border as support, one cadet hidden among countless troops.
So when Orion found the major and slapped him, the man’s first reaction was not that the illusion had gone
wrong.
Instead, he roared, “How dare you, brat!”
The helpless academy–student version of Orion had no choice but to roll up his sleeves and beat the major awake.
Even after the major woke up crying, he still did not understand who that student had been, or why the boy had descended from nowhere and beaten him for no reason.
The most important point was that he had not been able to win.
Absurd or not, Orion’s rapid illusion–hopping slap treatment truly woke ten veterans that day.
News of ten heroes awakening soon spread across the Empire.
Imperial media called it another miracle of the Second and Third Legions, and countless citizens were moved by it.
After the ten treatments, Orion finally rescued the little lotus and placed it back on Ruin’s fluffy head.
From then on, Ruin took Julian’s place and carried the lotus through the next round of preliminary awakenings.
For the next few days, medical staff in that building often saw a round, fluffy wolf cub trotting happily through the wards with a sky–blue lotus on its head.
Everyone made way for the two little ones.
Sometimes, when the lotus was in a good mood, it shook its petals and released a faint blue–green ripple, clearing away the exhaustion everyone had built up from days of work.
As they visited more wards, more Alphas began surfacing from their illusions.
Their illusion locations were identified with increasing precision.
Several famous battles were pulled into view one after another.
Soon, Orion traced the activity route of the Helena morphos.

Like Omegas, those Helena morphos were clearly protected at the rear of the insectoid forces.
They did not appear easily.
But whenever an insectoid offensive reached a key moment, they would provide support.
That support was immediately effective..
“That fits the pattern.”
On the return voyage, the old generals studied the report with complicated expressions.

“Every time these veterans fell into illusions, our defensive line was being tightened. To put it plainly, the insectoids were pushing us back step by step.”
One old general sighed.
“Orion, that child Julian is a true treasure. Treat him well.”
Several veterans under his command were on this treatment list.
Without Julian, those soldiers might never wake up.
For proud Alphas, what was that if not torture?
Another old general laughed.
“Does he need you to tell him? Anyone who picks up a treasure like that would never let go.”
Orion’s smile softened.
You are right, sir. As long as Julian does not leave, I will not let go.”
He had barely finished speaking when Atlas, who had been reading the file nearby, gave a cold snort.
“Still pretending? I said it long ago. Mulholland blood has problems. Treacherous, scheming, deep as a pit. The better–looking the Alpha, the better he lies.”
Orion smiled and said nothing.
The older generation did not intend to let him escape.
“Still smiling? You would let go? If someone cut off your hands, you would grow them back just to keep clinging to him.”
