Chapter 29 The Livestream That Changed Everything

Fortunately, Harlan only looked at him once more before giving his adjutant a subtle glance.

Almost immediately, the adjutant looked up and shook his head.

They could not cut the livestream.

Harlan suddenly turned toward Julian, his sharp hawk-like eyes darkening by the second.

Julian responded with a speechless look that clearly said, What is wrong with you?

Harlan: “…”

Taking a deep breath, Harlan exchanged another look with his adjutant.

Meanwhile, in the video, Cole was explaining how his spirit form had shattered and how he had been as good as dead, only for Julian, who had been fleeing for his life, to toss him into a sewer by sheer coinciden and even leave him a bottle of hemostatic gel.

That gave the haters new ammunition.

[Case closed. The Beta saved him, so of course he’s twisting the story for him.]

[Got it. The Beta led people away first. Then when the captain couldn’t hold the insectoids off, the Beta showed up again and happened to save this big guy.]

[They’re clearly in this together. That Beta is pretty cute too. Who knows what kind of private deal they made?]

But the sarcasm lasted only a few minutes.

After coughing hard several times, Cole said, “I… I have evidence.”

The viewers still had no idea what evidence Cole meant.

But Julian saw several straight-backed Alpha officers walk into the conference room, heading directly toward Merrick, who was staring nervously at his screen.

“What are you here for?”

Harlan looked at the sudden arrival of his fellow officers, and the feeling that everything had slipped out of his control only grew stronger.

The Alpha leading them smiled and did not bother pretending he did not know Harlan.

“Colonel Turner should still remember me. I’m Colonel Ethan Cross from the Second Legion. I’m here to retrieve something from Merrick Holt.”

“What thing?”

Harlan narrowed his eyes, clearly intending to stop him.

Unfortunate.y, Ethan was not nearly as courteous as he appeared.

The next second, he moved directly and seized Merrick, who was still in a daze. His voice turned cold.

“We suspect your mecha contains dangerous materials brought back from Zerath. You are required to summon your mecha immediately and cooperate with our investigation.”

“My mecha is already damaged. There can’t be anything dangerous on it.”

Merrick struggled as he tried to defend himself.

But Ethan had already taken out an investigation warrant and ordered the soldiers behind him to search Merrick.

Now, even if Harlan wanted to interfere, he could not openly clash with Ethan.

Offending them over one Merrick Holt was not worth it.

Even the Holt family would think the same if they were here.

Ethan quickly retrieved what he wanted from the shrunken mecha.

Harlan did not dare linger any longer. He took his people and left the conference room directly.

Only after the dazed Merrick Holt was taken away by the academy administrator did Ethan walk past Jul and say in a low voice, “Cadet Shaw, Major General Hayes asked me to send you his regards.”

Ethan had expected the young man to be surprised, excited, or at least curious.

Instead, Julian merely tilted his head and blurted out something Ethan could not understand at all.

“Huh. So this is what it feels like to be a core disciple from a major sect who can swagger around uncheck This broke independent cultivator approves.”

In the end, Ethan still failed to understand this rumored Cadet Shaw.

He only secretly handed Julian a small box, then left the Imperial Military Academy with the item he had been tasked to retrieve.

Julian thanked R through the tabby Maine Coon and once again rejected her invitation to contribute to th Empire’s research. After that, he followed Anne out of the conference room.

Anne was considerate of his condition. She asked a few casual questions, then let him return and rest.

Julian did not think too much of it.

He only noticed that many people kept turning back to look at him on the way. Some even gathered in two and threes to whisper.

“So he’s that Beta, Julian Shaw…”

“His laser cannon aim was insane.”

“And he actually landed on the back of an S-rank insectoid. Are we sure he’s really a Beta and not an Alpha?”

It was not until Julian returned to the dorm and saw Noah, who had also just been released, that he finally learned what had happened on StarBlog.

It turned out the thing Ethan had taken was a recorder.

Cole had secretly installed it on Merrick Holt’s mecha.

So while the other recorders had been destroyed, this one had faithfully recorded everything that happened during the assessment.

It recorded how the Beta had been isolated but still warned his teammates.

It recorded him jumping off the mecha alone after being splashed with an unknown liquid.

It even recorded him moving across the body of an S-rank insectoid and stalling it by himself.

It was not that no Alpha could have done the same.

The problem was that he was a Beta.

“Julian, you’re famous! You’re seriously famous, do you know that?”

Noah grabbed Julian’s shoulders and shook him in excitement.

But Julian’s wrist terminal lit up at that moment. The contact note was written in shining gold letters.

“Sect Leader Ashford.”

Julian pushed Noah away and immediately opened the screen.

Sect Leader Ashford: “Black kitten getting head pats.jpg”

Before this message, Julian had sent him a black kitten thank-you sticker.

Julian thought about it for a moment.

Since he did not know what else to say, he simply replied with another sticker.

Julian: “Black kitten rolling around.jpg”

Sect Leader Ashford: “Black kitten emotionally stable.jpg”

Julian was about to end this pointless conversation there.

But Orion sent another message.

Sect Leader Ashford: “Did you open the box I sent you?”

Julian suddenly remembered that Ethan had indeed given him a small box.

He seemed to have forgotten to open it.

As if Orion knew exactly what he was thinking, another message came in.

Sect Leader Ashford: “Forgot?”

Julian: “…”

Julian: “Looking now!”

Noah, who was lying half-dead on the bed, watched Julian tear into a small box with sudden urgency.

Then Julian took out a beautifully packaged bottle of clear liquid.,

Noah froze.

The look he gave Julian immediately turned strange.

You’re into Alphas?”

Huh?”

Seeing Julian look completely lost, Noah immediately grinned teasingly.
