Chapter 435 The Six Legions Strike

Demonflower Blood Mantis: “Not Mantis’s fault.”

Giant-Jawed Stag Beetle: “Beetle baby did nothing wrong.”

Blazingwing Gold Scorpion: “Scorpion tried. Scorpion tried harder than anyone.”

Caitlyn Monarch: “…”

Fine. None of you did anything wrong. Was it my fault, then?

Caitlyn could not be bothered arguing with the three idiots. It kept beating its wings and spreading scale powder over them, steadily treating their wounds.

When that underhanded wolf ambushed the Infernal Prison Bee, the three royal insectoids had broken every normal limit. They burned their own source power and forced out one devastating attack after another in an attempt to save it.

They had failed.

They had not kept the Infernal Prison Bee alive, and humanity had taken its core.

Still, the three truly had done everything they could. The massive expenditure had left them genuinely weak.

If Mother had not cursed them viciously through the hive mind and ordered them back to restrain humanity, they would never have returned.

Caitlyn had received the Brood Mother’s command to keep the three stable.

Naturally, it had to keep rewarding them.

Soon.

Awakening Day was close.

Humanity would soon lose the ability to resist the swarm.

The thought had barely formed when mass deaths among the lower insectoids sent the entire hive mind into a violent, uncontrollable tremor.

Every insectoid that vanished screamed the same warning in its final instant.

Enemy attack!

Honeycomb energy matrices lit one after another.

Three invisible kill-lines crossed the stars and erased the section of swarm nearest the human fleet.

“The Corsair Fleet has launched successfully!”

The Sixth Legion’s Corsair Fleet was known as the fastest strike force in the Empire, with firepower to match.

Ten thousand starships jumped together. They crossed the zone where insectoids were already crumbling into dust and struck the still-stunned swarm with a second surprise wave.

Energy fire poured down like a cloudburst.

The lower insectoids had no chance to resist.

Higher-ranked creatures survived the barrage, but their punishment was already approaching.

“Third strike wave, begin.”

At Orion’s order, thousands upon thousands of mecha launched from the motherships. They formed squads, entered through the breach opened by the fleet, and drove deep into the

swarm.

“Hold nothing back.”

With that terse order, Orion unlocked the full battle channel and returned tactical command to the field commanders of each legion.

Motherships were defensive fortresses. Their immense size made them too slow and inflexible for this kind of offensive.

The instant Orion delegated command, several advanced mecha shot from the Ninefold and the Siren like blades aimed at the heart of the battlefield.

Harper’s Shadowflash carried twin swords.

It was an assassin-class close-combat mecha built around maximum agility. Every blink-fast assault ended with another insectoid split apart by dark-violet lightning.

Its speed had already been ghostlike. Its stealth had already been nearly perfect. Its attacks had already been devastating.

After Julian’s upgrades, every movement became impossibly smooth and brutally efficient.

Herrer grinned so widely that her mouth nearly reached her ears.

“God, this feels good! The more I fight, the better it gets!”

Marston’s Radiant Ashwing was a rare dual-form mecha, equally capable at close and long

range.

Once, switching between its two forms had troubled him. One mistake during battle could have delayed the transformation and turned him into cannon fodder.

Julian’s upgrade eliminated the problem.

One second, Marston was fighting insectoids face-to-face.

The next, he slid back without the slightest break in motion and plowed through the battlefield with heavy artillery.

Seriously.

Who else could understand that rush?

Even the normally steady Marston released the battle cry of a man who had never stopped being a reckless boy at heart.

“Blow them to hell!”

Lieutenant General Mendez was much quieter in his own legendary mecha..

No one would have guessed that the officer who loved close combat most had been assigned Skyfall Judgment.

It was a pure long-range platform loaded with absurdly heavy firepower.

Boom.

Mendez piloted it by doing one thing.

He fired.

Again and again.

It was the same savage school of combat his ancestors had favored: if necessary, blast the hostage and the captor together.

“ROAR!”

The swarm’s numbers collapsed at terrifying speed. Humanity beat the insectoids so badly that even their Brood Mother might not have recognized them.
