“A feint above, a focused strike below, coordinated formations, and a hidden rank. That battle gave us a surprising amount of information.”
Rowan stood beside Julian with his usual pleasant smile as their starship departed for the next world.
Nine commercial planets had been attacked. Mercury Star had suffered the worst damage and fallen faster than any of the others.
That was precisely why the military had chosen it for the first operation. They needed to test the enemy’s strength.
The result was clear. One 2S-class insectoid exceptionally skilled at concealing its rank, supported by a large group of unusually intelligent S-rank creatures, explained exactly what the First Legion’s Alpha rescue unit had faced.
The highest-ranked member of that unit had only been S-rank.
“Damn…” Marston shook his head. “This group was even smarter than the one on the resort worlds. Who knows what we’ll be facing next?”
Troublesome.
Extremely troublesome.
That did not mean humanity could avoid dealing with it.
Especially when Julian was the kind of Omega who refused to work whenever possible, then worked with terrifying intensity once he started.
Following him meant crossing nine worlds in three days and spending no more than two or three hours on each.
[Bloom, encircle, exterminate, withdraw. I’m numb. His Grace’s speed has actually made me numb.]
[We’re so lucky to have him. He’s the most relentless Omega I’ve ever seen.]
[Has anyone considered that His Grace may only want to clock out early? Look at the way he stares at everyone like they’re garbage. Doesn’t he look exactly like you dragging yourself to work first thing in the morning, furious at the entire universe?]
Among countless comments, [He looks at everyone like they’re garbage] surged to the top and became the newest phrase associated with Omega Sovereign Julian Shaw.

The viewers shouting [Wife], [Wife, look at me], [Wife, I love you], and [Wife, I’m your dog] encountered a different problem.
Some mysterious force appeared to target every one of them. At first, their comments posted successfully, only to vanish a moment later.
They refused to believe it.
So they tried again.
That only made things worse. The interface claimed their comments had posted, but the messages were swallowed immediately and could not be found anywhere.
Eventually, the mysterious force stopped pretending. Under every discussion thread concerning Julian, the word “wife” became impossible to send.
“Darling” and “sweetheart” were blocked too. If large numbers of sincere mom-fans had not called Julian “baby,” that word probably would have died with the others.
Soon after [He looks at everyone like they’re garbage], another phrase captured the rankings.
[Whether I’m human is debatable, but someone here is definitely a dog.]
Even Marston laughed. He could not resist complaining to Rowan.
“Your general is far too petty. When Hathaway served as chief healer of the Fourth Legion, plenty of enlisted men admired her. They even gave her the nickname Hattie…
The moment Marston mentioned his beloved wife, the words began pouring out without end.
Rowan answered with only three.
“That wouldn’t work.”
Realizing his answer might be misunderstood, Rowan gave a solemn explanation.
“You’re generous. Our general is ruthless, vindictive, narrow-minded, and incapable of letting a grudge go. Give Little Sir a pet name, and he’ll beat you himself.”
Marston: “?”
I’m not out of my mind!
That wasn’t my point. My point was that my wife had countless admirers too, and I endured every possible hardship before I finally won her heart. I…

Then Marston studied Rowan’s smiling face and remembered one crucial fact.
Damn it. This man is single. Why am I telling him any of this?
He could only wave the subject away with open disdain.

“Forget it. You wouldn’t understand. I’m done explaining.”
Rowan: “…”
Nearby, Julian had been eating a small cake without expression. At that moment, the corner of his mouth lifted, as though the cake had suddenly become sweeter.
Harold, who had been overseeing arrangements for the rescued civilians, arrived with an update.
“Your Grace, the survivors from Mercury Star, Ryderg Star, Oberlin Star, and the other affected worlds have all been evacuated. They’re being housed on Mell Star and are waiting to meet you.”
Harold had started to say Julian’s name. One glare from Helen made him change it to Your Grace.
Helen had a reason.
After watching Julian face insectoids directly and attack them himself, Helen.now regarded him as a model for every Omega in the Empire.
This was how Omegas should carry themselves: above the crowd, untouchable and proud, with even top- tier Alphas looking like bodyguards beside them.
The obsession of a narcissus.
Who else could understand it?
“Oh.”
Julian’s newly formed smile vanished. Even the cake in his mouth stopped tasting sweet.
Unfortunately, comforting the public was a necessary part of the operation.
He had already done the work. There might be no tangible reward, but he still needed to accept their gratitude.
Otherwise, neglect could become habit. If Julian treated his own effort as worthless, some of the people he saved would eventually do the same.

Not everyone behaved that way.
Someone always did.
Mell Star.

“Good evening, everyone. This is Capital News, and I’m Lena Cross. I’ll be bringing your questions directly to Omega Sovereign Julian Shaw in a special interview from the public’s point of view.”
The reporter was tall and striking. Microphone in hand, she stood beside Julian with the crisp competence and professional confidence of an experienced Beta journalist.
Rowan gently reminded Julian that he should greet the audience.
Julian looked as though every ounce of enthusiasm had already left his body.
