Chapter 446 The Hidden 2S

The swarm gathered around Mercury Trade Tower in moments, packed so densely that it resembled moths hurling themselves into a flame. Every insectoid rushed toward the irresistibly fragrant Julian without the slightest concern for its life.

The livestream audience felt their trypophobia flare just from watching.

Helen was no better. Seeing the scene firsthand from the starship, he had lost every trace of his usual narcissus pride. His eyes contained only one deafening thought.

Julian is incredible.

“Shouldn’t that be enough?”

As the mass around the tower continued thickening, unease crept over Marston. He was not frightened of insectoids. Julian was simply too important, and Marston refused to gamble with even the smallest risk to his safety.

“We’re still short 1,327. There may be a larger one mixed in. Wait a little longer,” Julian replied with exact certainty.

He had already come down here. How could he leave before wiping them all out?

[Did His Grace actually count them, or did he just pick a number?]

The comment had barely crossed the livestream when a dark cloud appeared in the distance. It was another tightly packed cluster of insectoids.

Some bored mathematical genius immediately captured the image and fed the livestream into the military’s swarm-estimation model.

1,327.

The instant the number appeared, the entire chat figuratively dropped to its knees.

[His Grace is unreal!]

As countless viewers celebrated Julian’s accuracy, all 1,327 newcomers merged with the existing swarm and pressed toward the roof like a descending storm cloud.

The creatures truly had become smarter.

Earlier insectoids had known only how to charge an enemy head-on. These had learned to

divide their roles.

“Damn, that’s dirty. Are they trying to ram the entire tower apart?” Leon Pike exclaimed.

Inside Everfrost, Adrian Whitmore felt cold spread through his body at the same realization.

He had spotted more than the small group trying to smash through the tower’s lower structure.

cover the attackers below. The enormous swarm above Julian was only staging a feint

“Kill every one of them.”

At Adrian’s command, a compact mecha unit broke away and exterminated the covert swarm. The pilots immediately swung their cannons upward toward the main mass overhead.

“ROAR!”

The insectoids above seemed to realize their plan had failed. With furious howls, they became a living tide and crashed against the rooftop in wave after wave.

The impacts shook the entire tower. Bitter wind tore across the roof with enough force to knock an ordinary person flat.

Julian remained where he stood.

His shirt was spotless white, his hair black as ink. However violently the building pitched beneath him, he did not move.

Was it really shaking that much?

Not at all.

And the wind…

Julian did not need to concern himself with that either. Rowan had compressed his psychic power into a barrier, filtering out every vicious gust and allowing only a faint breeze to brush Julian gently.

Marston glanced at Rowan in surprise. The Second and Third Legions truly concealed one monster after another.

Orion’s brilliance was so overwhelming, and Caleb Hayes was such an extraordinary prodigy, that even though Marston and the others knew Rowan managed diplomacy for both legions, part of their internal administration, and the entire shadow division, they had never paid him much attention.

The military respected combat strength above all. Rowan had appeared to be a political specialist at most, and his spirit form had almost never entered a battlefield.

Marston vaguely remembered hearing that it was a fox.

At least, that was the rumor within the military.

Fox or not, Rowan’s control of psychic power far exceeded Marston’s expectations. Marston even had the uncomfortable impression that if Rowan ever reached the same rank as him, Rowan might surpass him.

Damn it…

I want to poach him so badly.

While Marston coveted another legion’s talent, the swarm launched a new offensive. Instead of spreading itself across a broad front, it compressed into one point and drove forward as a concentrated spear.

Mecha and spirit-form attacks continually shredded the insectoids in the lead. Under that cover, however, the creatures behind them kept closing in on Julian.

At last, the swarm apparently decided it had reached the correct distance.

Several S-rank insectoids moved ahead to entangle the human mecha and spirit forms. Behind them, an oversized Titan Longhorn Beetle watched for an opening.
