Mom’s finger was in my face.
“We raised you! We fed you, clothed you for years and this is how you repay us?!”
“Raised me,” I repeated. “You mean like an investment?”
I smiled.
“Mom. All the money I’ve sent you since I started working? It’s more than you ever spent on me. And that’s not counting the renovations. Not counting two years of
mortgage payments.”
I paused.
“If you think raising me was an investment, you’ve already made your money back. I’m just calling in my principal.”
She stared at me, shaking.
I looked at all three of them.
“Last time. Two days. After that, I’m filing.”
I pulled the door out of Mike’s grip and shut it behind me.
Through the wood, I heard them.
“You’ll regret this, Emily!”
“Ungrateful bitch, after everything we did for you…”
“One day you’ll come crawling back. You’ll beg us…”
