[Mansion]
Entering the mansion without a problem didn’t make anyone relaxed. If anything, the tension in the area heightened as soon as the trucks entered the premises.
Well, not with rifles facing each other from both groups.
The second their trucks stopped, armed men quickly surrounded them. Although none of them opened fire, everyone was aware that one person making the slightest mistake would result in a crossfire.
"Please lower your weapons," the Butler said, marching out of the circle of armed men surrounding the vehicles.
He stood motionless a few paces away, his eyes landing on the vehicles. He quickly spotted Zoren inside one of them, watching as the men in that truck had already jumped out. All of them stood with their hands on their rifles.
Once Zoren came out, the tension in the air grew.
This was understandable, considering Zoren was the man these men protected. Therefore, having him out in the open with all these weapons around them warranted a higher tension between the two groups.
"Welcome," the butler greeted, earning a look from Zoren.
Zoren quietly raised a hand before approaching the Butler. Angel and Mark walked closer to him, their eyes darting everywhere.
When Zoren stopped, he stared down at the butler, who was clearly smaller than he was.
"It’s been a while, Mr. Pierson," the butler offered him a smile while Zoren’s brows briefly crinkled. "The Madam has been made aware of your presence. She’s been waiting for you."
"Before I lead you to her, we’ve had to confiscate their weapons," he continued politely. "We do not allow any weapons in the pavilion, as that is a sacred place for the Madam."
Hearing this, the people with Zoren looked at each other, then at Zoren. They only had one thing in mind:
’Don’t agree with it.’
Taking away their weapons just to meet Nathalie was suicide. There was no way Nathalie Zorken would just let them go as easily as she let them in. This place would be their grave if they surrendered their arms.
"They don’t have to go."
Much to everyone’s surprise, Zoren’s answer was something they didn’t expect. He then glanced over his shoulder and faced his men.
"You do not have to go with me," he said. "They won’t move from here because they would not let you near her armed."
"Coward," Angel spat out, followed by the metallic sounds of rifles pointing at him. He scoffed in amusement, watching how they automatically focused their aim at him.
"Hah. That’s quick."
"Please watch your words," the butler said kindly, but his voice was laced with displeasure. "You may not share the same respect we have towards our Madam, but we do not allow anyone to speak badly about her."
"Sir." Unfazed by the sudden shift of attention toward Angel, Mark looked into his boss’s eyes. "Sir, are you sure about this?"
Zoren nodded, then he cast his other men a look. They all didn’t say anything; they just stared in silence before they finally nodded in understanding.
Once that was dealt with, he faced the butler and spoke aloud. "If I don’t come out of here in ten minutes, you can do whatever you want."
"Kill as many of them as possible, and retreat," he continued, making sure everyone—even the enemy—heard him. "It means they killed me by then."
The enemy hissed, but they kept that time limit in mind. The butler, on the other hand, raised his brows at him.
"I do not think you should’ve said it aloud, sir," the butler remarked. "Complacency is a disease... as what the Zorken and the Order always say."
The corners of his mouth curled up. "Indeed it is," he nodded. "I wonder just how much of what I said your men took into consideration?"
The slight smile on the butler’s face faltered while the other men furrowed their brows. What Zoren said just now was that the ten minutes could only be taken with a grain of salt. They might or might not take action in ten minutes... or perhaps, earlier.
This just raised the tension between the group.
