Chapter 121: Chapter 121 The Intruder II

SOPHIA’S POV

"Now," Zade said, settling back onto my bed like he owned it, "where were we before that adorable interruption?"

"You were leaving," I said firmly, crossing my arms. "Through the window. The same way you came in."

"Was I?" He stretched out, making himself comfortable against my pillows. "I don’t remember agreeing to that."

My wolf was agitated. She kept pacing inside me. Half of her wanted to throw him out immediately. The other half - the part I refused to acknowledge - was responding to his alpha presence in ways that made me deeply uncomfortable.

"Zade, I’m serious. You need to go." I grabbed the bag of Lance’s dirty laundry from my closet. I’d promised to get his jacket cleaned. "I have things to do tomorrow, and I need to sleep."

Zade’s eyes locked on the bag. His expression shifted from playful to dangerous in an instant. "What’s that?"

"Laundry," I said, but I could already sense where this was going.

"Whose laundry?"

I hesitated. "Does it matter?"

In one second, Zade was off the bed and pulling the bag from my hands. He opened it and pulled out Lance’s soaked jacket. His eyes flashed pure gold.

"This is his," Zade said, his voice dropping to a growl. "The doctor’s."

"He got wet walking me to my car," I explained quickly. "I offered to get it cleaned-"

Zade threw the jacket on the floor with force. "You brought another man’s clothes into your bedroom?"

"It’s just laundry, Zade. Don’t be ridiculous."

"Ridiculous?" He stepped closer "You have his scent all over this. His jacket that he used to shield you from the rain and you brought it here, to your private space, to your bedroom."

"Because I promised to clean it!" I snapped.

"He shouldn’t have been close enough to you to get wet in the first place. He shouldn’t be sharing umbrellas with you like-"

"Like what? You don’t get to be jealous, Zade. We’re not together”

"Aren’t we?" He moved closer, backing me against the wall. "Because it feels like something to me. Every time I see you, every time I think about you, every time I imagine you with someone else - it feels like everything."

"That’s not my problem," I said, even though my heart was racing. "I didn’t ask for your feelings."

"No, you didn’t." Zade’s hand came up to cup my face. His touch was surprisingly gentle. "But you have them anyway and whether you want to admit it or not, you feel something for me too."

"I feel nothing,"

"Then why is your heart racing?" His thumb traced my cheekbone. "Why can I smell your arousal even as you push me away?"

Heat burned my face. Damn werewolf senses.

"That’s just biology. It doesn’t mean anything."

“Sophia-”"

I’m married. I have a daughter. I-”

"And you’re miserable." Zade’s hand dropped from my face. "You’re married to a man who’s building a life with someone else. You have a daughter who pushes you away at every turn"

The words hit too close to home.

I gritted my teeth as I spoke "You don’t know anything about me."

"I know more than you think." He stepped back, giving me space. "I know you’re brilliant and strong and deserve so much better than what you’re getting. I know you’re scared to leave because you’re afraid of being alone. And I know that if you just gave me a chance-"

"I can’t." The words came out as a whisper. “Please, just leave. Or I’ll scream”

Zade was quiet for a long moment. Then he nodded slowly. "Fine. I’ll leave."

I felt relieved "Thank you-"

"After you fall asleep." He moved back to the bed and sat down. "I need to make sure you’re safe first."

"Zade, I’m safe in my own home-"

"Humor me." His expression was stubborn. "I’ll sit here quietly while you get ready for bed. Once you’re asleep, I’ll leave through the window. You’ll never even know I was here."

He leaned back against the headboard.

This was insane. Absolutely insane. But I was too exhausted to fight anymore.

I folded my arms.

"Happy?" I asked sarcastically.

"Getting there." He patted the bed beside him. "Now come to bed."

"I’m not getting in bed with you!"

"I’m not asking you to sleep with me. I’m asking you to sleep. There’s a difference." He stood and moved to the chair by the window instead. "I’ll sit here. You take the bed."

I hesitated, then realized this was probably the best compromise I was going to get. I climbed into bed, pulling the covers up to my chin, and glared at him.

"This is weird," I said.

"Probably," he agreed. "But I don’t care."

I closed my eyes, determined to pretend he wasn’t there. But my wolf was hyperaware of his presence - his scent, his breathing, the subtle sounds of him shifting in the chair.

As I closed my eyes, I felt a kiss on my forehead. "Sleep, Sophia. I’ll be gone when you wake up."
