Chapter 160: Chapter 160 Rounds And Consultation

SOPHIA’S POV

That day, I kept working.

The morning passed as I did patient rounds and consultations.

By lunchtime, my stomach was growling loudly enough that a patient actually laughed and told me to go eat.

I headed toward the cafeteria. As I walked, my mind was already calculating which quick meal would give me enough energy to get through the afternoon without falling asleep.

But as I approached the cafeteria entrance, I saw someone waiting.

Lance stood near the doors, holding a thermal lunch container. He had a huge smile on his face.

"Lance?" I blinked in surprise. "What are you doing here? I thought you had the day off."

"I did. But I had some paperwork to drop off at administration." He held up the container. "And I figured while I was here, I’d make sure you actually ate something."

I was shocked "You brought me lunch?"

"I remembered you mentioning your arm was still sore. So I ordered from that place you like." He gestured toward an empty table. "Come on. Let’s sit."

We settled at a corner table, away from the main crowd. Lance opened the container. There were nice meals inside the container. It was filled with tender chicken, soft vegetables, and rice.

"This is really thoughtful," I said. My wolf was practically purring with happiness at being cared for. "Thank you."

He shrugged "It’s just food."

We ate together. The conversation flowed easily as we ate. With Lance, there was usually no pressure.

"How’s your arm?" Lance asked, nodding toward my bandaged forearm.

"Better. Still sore, but healing." I flexed my fingers carefully. "Should be back to normal in another week or so."

"And the divorce? How’s that progressing?"

I paused with my fork halfway to my mouth.

"Slowly," I admitted. "We signed the agreement, but we can’t find the marriage certificate. So now we have to apply for a replacement before we can file."

"That’s frustrating."

"It is. But honestly?" I set down my fork. "The delay doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. I think part of me needs this time to... adjust, to process."

"That makes sense." Lance took a sip of his water. "Ending a marriage isn’t just paperwork. It’s grieving a future you thought you’d have. Give yourself time to feel that."

The understanding in his voice made my throat tight. "Everyone keeps telling me to just move on. To be happy it’s over. But-"

"But it’s not that simple." Lance reached across and squeezed my uninjured hand "And that’s okay. You don’t have to rush through grief just because other people are uncomfortable with it."
