Chapter 196: Chapter 196 A Fortune Telling

SOPHIA’S POV

The night still felt peaceful around me as we walked away from the riverside, but something inside me had changed.

I didn’t feel as calm as I did. I remembered everything that happened a few minutes ago - Damien’s cold words, the way he looked at me, and the presence of Tiffany beside him. Everything had stirred something I thought I had already buried. I tried not to think about it, but it kept moving in my mind.

Zade walked beside me without speaking. He didn’t ask what I was thinking, and I was grateful for that. I didn’t even know how to explain what I was feeling. My mind felt crowded, but at the same time, strangely empty.

We moved deeper into the night market again, where the lights were warmer. Here, the sounds of people returned around us. My wolf picked up sounds of laughter, soft conversations, and the occasional call of a vendor.

It felt alive, almost too alive compared to how heavy my chest felt.

“Are you tired?” Zade asked suddenly.

I shook my head “Not really,”.

He didn’t say anything else. Instead, he slowed down his steps, as if giving me more time to take everything in. I appreciated that, even if I didn’t say it out loud.

We stopped at another stall. It displayed small pieces of jewelry. The owner had lovely things.

Rings, bracelets, and necklaces were laid out neatly under a lantern. I looked at them all until one piece caught my attention.

It was a necklace. It was so beautiful with a small pendant that reflected the light gently. It wasn’t flashy or overly detailed, but there was something about it that felt... right.

I didn’t realize I had been staring at it until Zade picked it up.

“You like this one,” he said.

It wasn’t a question.

I looked at him quickly, then back at the necklace.

“It’s just... nice,” I said, trying to sound casual.

“That means you like it,” he replied calmly.

Before I could say anything else, he turned to the vendor. “We’ll take it.”

I frowned

“No, wait. Zade, you don’t have to buy it,” I said quickly.

He ignored me. He didn’t say anything, even as I kept telling him not to bother. A moment later, he had paid for it and the necklace was already in his hand.

I looked at it in shock. Zade always seemed to notice the things I liked. It showed he was paying attention.

“Turn around,” he said.

I blinked. “What?”

“Turn around,” he repeated.

I stared at him for a second, then shook my head.

“No,” I said firmly. “I’m not taking it.”

Zade didn’t argue. Instead, he looked at the necklace for a moment, then lifted it as if considering something.

“Fine,” he said.

Before I could react, he turned his hand and made a motion as if he was about to throw it away.

“Zade!” I exclaimed, stepping forward “What are you doing?” 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

“If you don’t want it, then there’s no point keeping it,” he said calmly. His hand was still raised. mid-air.

My eyes went wide with shock “Are you serious right now?”

He didn’t respond.

My chest tightened slightly. I knew he could actually do it. There was no hesitation in him, no second thoughts. Besides, the money was nothing to him.

“Wait,” I said quickly. I reached out and grabbed his wrist before he could move “Don’t throw it.”

He looked at me. “Then take it.”

I hesitated.

This felt like a trap, and I knew it. I didn’t want any more gifts from him. I’d made that perfectly clear a while ago. But the thought of him throwing it away bothered me more than I expected.

“...Fine,” I muttered quietly.

Zade’s hand lowered immediately.

Without another word, he stepped closer and gently moved behind me. I felt my body stiffen slightly as his presence came closer. His fingers brushed against my neck as he placed the necklace around me.

His touch made my breath catch. My heart rate got faster.

“There,” he said softly.

I didn’t turn around immediately. I just stood there, feeling the necklace resting against my skin.

When I finally turned to face him, I avoided his eyes for a moment.

“You didn’t have to do that,” I said quietly.

“I wanted to,” he replied simply.
