Chapter 24: Chapter 24 Cold Mom II

THIRD PERSON’S POV

The next morning, the manor was quiet in the way pack territory often was at dawn.

Damien was already awake. His wolf paced restlessly inside him. He felt unsettled for reasons he refused to admit. The night had been too tense.

Even after she had gone upstairs, her scent had remained. He could still feel her presence. It ignited something in him that he didn’t want to name.

His phone rang suddenly.

Damien frowned when he saw Tiffany’s name on the screen.

“Damien,” Tiffany said when he answered. Her voice was shaky. It seemed like she was breathing heavily. “I -I really need you. Something’s wrong.”

He straightened at once. “What happened?”

“I can’t explain it over the phone,” she said quickly. “Please. You’re the only one who can help me right now. I need you to come meet me.”

Her words made him even more worried. She sounded desperate. He didn’t press for details. He didn’t stop to think. He didn’t question anything. All that mattered was getting to her in time.

“I’m coming,” he said firmly. “Where are you?”

She told him.

When the call ended, his focus had already shifted completely. He didn’t even bother about whatever tension remained from the night before. Tiffany needed him. That was all that mattered.

A few minutes later, Ashley came out of her room. Her school uniform was only half-buttoned. Her eyes were filled with anger.

“You are going somewhere.”

“I have to leave,” Damien replied quickly as he grabbed his jacket. “Something urgent came up.”

Ashley’s mouth opened in shock. “Who will dress me for school?”

“The servants. Cooperate with them. I don’t want to hear about you causing trouble.”

Her eyes flashed with more anger. She stomped her foot on the ground. “What about taking me? Who will drive me?”

Damien was already pulling out his phone. “Your mom will take you.”

“She’s not here.”

“She’ll be soon.” Damien said then sent a text to Sophia.

Damien: I have not seen you this morning. Are you around? I’m busy and I won’t be available. Take Ashley to school.

He didn’t wait to see if it had been read.

Damien assumed that Sophia would always do whatever he wanted, especially when it came to Ashley. She always had. What Damien didn’t know - what never crossed his mind - was that Sophia had already been at the hospital for hours. Her phone was tucked away in her bag, completely silent as alarms rang and patients were rushed through crowded corridors. She was totally consumed by her work. She never saw the message. She had no idea Ashley was waiting.
