SOPHIA’S POV
The moment Zade asked me what changed, my chest tightened painfully.
His voice had been low and rough when he said it. There was frustration inside it, under that frustration, I heard something even more dangerous -hurt, real hurt.
My wolf whimpered softly inside me. She hated hearing him sound like that.
Even now, after everything, she still reacted to him so strongly that it frustrated me to my core.
I dropped his injured hand after finishing the bandage.
“You should disinfect it again later,” I said quietly while avoiding his eyes.
But Zade didn’t move. He didn’t respond. He didn’t even glance at the bandage.
Instead, his eyes remained fixed entirely on my face.
“Sophia.” He whispered.
Just hearing him say my name that way made my chest ache.
I stepped back from him.
“We should go back,” I said.
Before I could turn away, Zade suddenly grabbed my wrist.
The warmth of his hand instantly spread through my skin like fire. My breath caught involuntarily, and my wolf reacted immediately to the physical contact. She pressed anxiously against me, torn between wanting him closer and wanting to run away from him completely.
“You still haven’t answered me,” he said darkly.
I finally looked at him then.
And immediately regretted it.
Because his eyes looked terrifyingly intense right now. There was too much emotion inside them. Anger. Frustration. Confusion. Possessiveness. Pain.
All directed at me.
“You already know the answer,” I said quietly.
“No,” he replied immediately. “I don’t.”
His grip on my wrist tightened slightly.
“What changed between us?”
I stared at him silently for several seconds before finally laughing softly.
But there was no happiness in the sound.
“You really don’t know?”
Zade’s jaw clenched tightly.
My wolf whimpered again inside me because she could sense how unstable his emotions were becoming. His Alpha aura was growing heavier around us now, filling the quiet forest with dangerous pressure.
I pulled my wrist from his hand.
“What exactly are you asking me?” I said coldly. “Why I stopped chasing after you? Why I stopped acting like an idiot every time you looked at me?”
Zade’s expression darkened immediately. “That’s not what this is.”
“Then what is it?”
My voice rose as I spoke “You disrespected me by meeting up with Tiffany outside while you came to see me at the hospital. You flirt with Tiffany. You drink with Tiffany. You let her cling to you publicly. You show up everywhere with women hanging all over you.” My throat tightened painfully. “And then you stand here asking why I changed?”
Zade suddenly looked furious. “Tiffany means nothing.”
I laughed bitterly “Of course, she does.”
“She doesn’t,” he snapped harshly.
The force in his voice startled nearby birds from the trees.
My wolf flinched inside me and so did I. Zade immediately noticed. His expression shifted briefly with regret before hardening again.
“You’re the one pulling away from me,” he said. “You’re the one pretending nothing happened between us.”
I stared at him coldly “Because nothing should have happened between us.”
The moment those words left my mouth, I saw something crack inside his expression.
I saw the pain in his eyes, real pain. But I forced myself to continue anyway.
“We belong to completely different worlds, Zade.” I whispered.
He went still.
I swallowed hard before continuing “You and I were never supposed to happen in the first place.”
The forest suddenly felt painfully quiet around us. Even my wolf became restless now, because despite saying those words, they hurt me too.....a lot.
Zade stared at me for several long seconds without blinking. Then finally ....
“So that’s it?” he said. His voice had become frighteningly calm now. “That’s your excuse?”
I sighed “It’s not an excuse.”
“It is.” His eyes turned dark “You’re running away.”
I felt anger rise inside me immediately.
“No,” I snapped. “I’m being realistic.”
“Realistic?” he repeated mockingly.
“Yes.”
I folded my arms tightly across my chest to stop myself from trembling.
“This is about Damien.” He said “You still love him.”
My eyes went wide with shock “What?”
“You heard me.”
His wolf was surfacing now. I could feel it clearly. The possessive Alpha pressure around him had become almost suffocating.
“You keep pushing me away because of Damien.”
I gasped “That’s not true.”
“Yes, it is. You’re still emotionally tied to him no matter how badly he treats you.”
Anger exploded inside me instantly.

“You still love Damien,” he suddenly said again.
