SOPHIA’S POV
Around midnight, my phone buzzed. It was a news alert. I almost ignored it, but something made me pick it up and look. The headline made my blood run cold.
"Alpha Damien Stone Spares No Expense for Mystery Woman’s Birthday Celebration"
My hands shook as I clicked the article. Photos loaded slowly.
My heart broke into pieces as I saw photos of Damien and Tiffany at an exclusive boutique downtown. The owner had closed the entire store just for them. Tiffany was modeling dresses while Damien watched, smiling in a way I hadn’t seen in years.
I saw more photos - Shopping bags piled high, jewelry boxes from the most expensive stores in the city, a custom birthday cake that probably cost more than most people’s monthly rent. And the final image, the one that destroyed me completely was a photo of fireworks over the city skyline.
Thousands of dollars worth of fireworks spelling out "Happy Birthday Tiffany" in bright colors against the night sky.
The article estimated he’d spent millions, millions on her birthday, on making her feel special.
I’d never gotten anything like this. Not once in our entire marriage.
My birthdays had been quiet affairs. Maybe a dinner if Damien wasn’t too busy with work. Maybe a piece of jewelry that his assistant had picked out. Nothing personal. Nothing that showed he’d put thought or effort into making me feel loved.
But for Tiffany?
He’d shut down stores. He bought fireworks. He practically made a public declaration of how much she meant to him.
Tears rolled down my face. I couldn’t stop them. I couldn’t control the sobs that tore from my throat. I buried my face in my pillow to muffle the sounds. I didn’t want my parents to hear. I didn’t want anyone to know how completely broken I was.
This was it. This was the final confirmation.
Damien didn’t just want to hurt me or control me. He wanted to erase me. He wanted to build a new life with Tiffany where I didn’t exist.
I must have cried myself to sleep eventually because the next thing I knew, sunlight was coming in through my window.
My eyes were swollen and my head pounded. My phone showed dozens of messages from people I barely knew.
Everyone had seen the news. Everyone knew that my husband had moved on.
I ignored them all.
Slowly, I got dressed in a daze.
My wolf was quiet now. She wasn’t howling anymore. She was just... empty. She felt defeated. We both knew there was nothing left to fight for. Damien had made his choice and it wasn’t us.
But I still needed to try one more time, for my family.
For Marco and Patricia and my parents who were suffering because of Damien’s vindictiveness. I had to make him stop hurting them.
I drove to Stone Villa early. The sun was barely up. I thought maybe I could catch Damien before he left for work.
But when I pulled into the driveway, his car was already there and so was another car. It was a sleek red sports car that I recognized from the news photos. Tiffany’s car.
My stomach twisted. They’d come here together. They must have spent the night together.
I used my key to enter through the front door this time. Voices came from the living room. I could hear Damien and Tiffany talking.
They were on the couch together when I came in.
Tiffany was curled up against Damien’s side with his arm around her shoulders. She looked tired but happy, still wearing what looked like party clothes from last night. Damien was stroking her hair absently while talking on his phone about some business deal.
They looked comfortable together.
Damien saw me first. His expression didn’t change. There was no surprise or emotion. Nothing. He ended his phone call and looked at me like I was an unwelcome visitor.
"Sophia. What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I need to talk to you. It’s important."
