Please Come Back, My Love novel Chapter 219

Chapter 219

THERON POV

To say the last twenty-four hours had been exhausting would’ve been a gross understatement. Between preparing for the sudden trip and the barrage of last minute meetings my father dumped on me, I barely left the confines of my study. Each meeting was more pointless than the last, and by the end of the third one, I was convinced they served no other purpose than to keep me distracted from the real issue at hand: the thief who had gone after Ami.

I was growing restless by the second, my nerves fraying with every beat of my pulse. I nearly reached for my standard phone, ready to make a reckless call just to hear her voice. I knew I was inching closer to crossing a line, and today, I was ready to step right over it. All I needed was a sliver of privacy, a break from Zinnia and her ever-present shadows. But her entourage was relentless. I couldn’t so much as visit the restroom without one of those stone-faced, black-suited bodyguards lurking outside like some badly! directed spy movie.

Something was happening something big. I could feel it in my bones. I’d even confronted my father, demanded answers I knew he

was withholding. He looked me straight in the eye and offered me nothing but a coward’s dodge.

“There’s nothing I can do either way,” he’d muttered.

His indifference didn’t ease my anxiety it amplified it.

I would’ve turned to Lazaro, but he was neck-deep in investigating the murky mess from over a decade ago, chasing leads about

whatever went down between my father and Chun Kit. That left me with no one to count on but sheer luck and God help me, maybe

a miracle to keep Ami safe while I was away.

Zinnia stuck to me like a burr on the way to the airport. It was maddening. I forced myself to search for some shred of the feelings I once had for her not to rekindle anything. That ship had long since sunk. No, I was hoping those ghosts of affection might anchor the violent urges stirring inside me. But there was nothing. No embers left. Just ash. By the time we arrived at the tarmac, I was

nearly convinced this trip would end in bloodshed.

Slumping into my seat, I signaled to the flight attendant for a whiskey. Maybe I should’ve chased it with a sleeping pill. It’d help me

survive this flight and keep Zinnia alive in the process.

Then I heard footsteps entering the plane. I expected Renzo.

But he wasn’t alone.

“Meet Amaris Kennerly, my girlfriend,” he said with that goddamn crooked grin of his.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Zinnia beat me to the punch, parroting my exact thought.

Renzo lifted his hands, palms up. “No joke, unfortunately.”

Chapter 219

Ami shot him a sharp look and smacked his arm lightly, but with

lying so did Zinnia. But that wasn’t the point.

  1. She didn’t have

word, I already knew he was.

Ami was here. That was what mattered

*Renzo. A word ‘ I grabbed him by the arm and pulled him toward the galley, not caring who saw.

He yanked free and straightened his sleeve with a smirk. “She brings out the fire in you, doesn’t she?”

“I’m already fantasizing about killing Zinnia by the end of this flight. Don’t make me add a second name to the list.”

He sighed. “Bringing her wasn’t entirely my idea.”

I shot him a glare. “You expect me to believe Ami begged you to take her to Hong Kong?”

His smile slipped. “Chun Kit invited her. Bought her a commercial ticket and everything. But I overheard his men talking about a plane malfunction. Turned out they were talking about hers.*

My legs almost gave out. My brain scrambled to process his words.

“Jesus Christ…” My hand scraped through my hair. “Are you telling me Chun Kit was ready to crash a plane just to get to her?”

Renzo’s jaw tightened. “It’s possible. Maybe the malfunction was meant to delay the flight or reroute it. But a crash? It’s the cleanest way to cover an assassination, and Chun Kit’s not naive.”
