'Is Florian in trouble? But… I can't sense anyone new inside the palace… or…'
Charles's laughter cut through the wind—wild, unrestrained, and cruel. The sound made Heinz's jaw tighten. His hand twitched, itching to burn the man to ashes right where he stood.
But even Azure, who moments ago raged like a storm, hesitated. The dragon stepped back midair, wings flaring uneasily.
"I only needed a few minutes, Your Majesty," Charles said, his laughter still echoing. His tone was mocking, confident—too confident.
'He could be bluffing,' Heinz thought, his hand slowly lifting toward Azure. The dragon's muscles tensed in sync with his own. 'He knows my weakness, he could be using it against me.'
Charles tilted his head, that infuriating grin never fading. "And if you think this is a bluff… well," he said, his voice softening into something almost taunting, "can you really afford to lose him again?"
Heinz froze.
The words struck deep, deeper than any weapon.
"After all," Charles continued, his voice twisting into venom, "hasn't he already been taken away from you so many times? It won't stop, Your Majesty. It's also part of your destiny…"
Charles's grin stretched wider—too wide, too unnatural. Heinz thought his face might split apart from the force of it.
"…to lose that pretty little prince—"
"YOU SHUT YOUR—!"
Heinz's rage exploded before he could stop himself. A dark mist burst from his hands, slicing through the air toward Charles like a spear of death. The attack crackled with fury, burning through the night sky—
—but Charles was gone.
Just like that.
He vanished, along with the massive red dragon beneath him. No smoke, no flash, no trace.
Heinz staggered slightly, eyes scanning the scorched air around him. His breathing came harsh, his magic still pulsing wildly.
'He's gone?'
Just like that?
He stretched out his senses—nothing. Not even a flicker of mana remained.
'How…? How did he disappear like that? How does he know all this?'
The thought burned hotter than the flames still licking at his fingertips.
'Are the Gods… still punishing me? Wasn't Alexandria enough? Wasn't Hendrix enough?'
He clenched his fists, teeth grinding. "No…" he hissed through his teeth. He had no time to falter. No time to fear. He was Heinz, King of Concordia—the strongest Arcanior alive.
He wasn't allowed to be afraid.
Except—
"KRAAA!"
Azure's roar shook the heavens. The dragon's eyes glowed fiercely as it turned its massive head toward the palace.
Heinz followed its gaze—his heart twisting painfully in his chest.
Azure had sensed it.
The moment Charles vanished, the air around the palace shifted. There were presences—foreign, powerful—lurking where there shouldn't be any.
Men who didn't belong there.
And all of them… were near Florian.
Heinz wasted no time. Every second spent standing still was another heartbeat closer to disaster.
Charles could wait.
Right now, Florian needed him.
"Azure," Heinz ordered, his voice low, clipped, the fury in it barely restrained. "Turn smaller—but not too small."
