I tilted my head down just a fraction, a smile spreading across my face. “Thank you so very much for today. I genuinely had an amazing time.”

**I**

Adam’s smile mirrored mine, his eyes radiating warmth and kindness. “Oh, I should be the one expressing my gratitude, dear. You spent precious time with this old man. You have no idea how wonderful it felt to discuss so many topics.” He let out a soft chuckle. “Honestly, it’s not every day I meet someone who enjoys reading Lily Cooper’s books, especially someone of your age. It was truly refreshing to delve into her work with you.”

I nodded enthusiastically, my excitement bubbling over. “I know, right? It’s such a rarity to find someone who even recognizes her name.”

And it really was a rarity. I hadn’t even realized how swiftly time had flown by; we had spent what felt like hours laughing and diving deep into the intricacies of Cooper’s novels. For years, Lily Cooper had held the title of my favorite author. I used to think I was the only one who truly appreciated her genius until that day I spotted one of her books on Apollo’s shelf. I remembered the fleeting thought that maybe he was a fan too. And now, here I was, seated across from Adam, another kindred spirit!

“Since you’ve enjoyed her earlier works,” Adam said, his grin widening, “I’ll make sure to get you her latest book.”

My eyes widened in surprise. “Oh no, please, you really don’t have to do that,” I interjected quickly, shaking my head. “I wouldn’t want to put you out. Besides, it’s quite valuable, and I think there are only two copies in print.”

And one of those was already with Apollo. I doubted the second one even resided in this country.

Adam simply beamed with pride. “Oh, don’t fret about that. My son has a copy. I’ll just borrow it from him.” He chuckled, a hint of mischief dancing in his eyes. “Perhaps one day, you two could even meet and discuss the book together.”

I gazed at him, trying to suppress a laugh. He was so insistent about me meeting his son. Still, there was no way I could entertain that notion, especially when I was already entangled with Apollo. What we had might be purely physical, but that didn’t mean I would throw myself at every man I encountered. Not that I could, anyway. With the way things were progressing with Apollo, I doubted I’d have the energy left for anyone else.

‘Don’t worry about that. My son has a copy. I’ll just take it from him.’ His words echoed in my mind a moment later.

Wait—his son?

I blinked, focusing on him anew. His gaze was penetrating, the same hazel hue as Apollo’s. Their features bore a striking resemblance; the same strong jawlines, the same imposing presence when they locked eyes with you. Yet, Adam radiated warmth and approachability, while Apollo was all cold detachment and definitely unapproachable.

My stomach knotted. Could he possibly be… Apollo’s father?

I shook my head vigorously. No, that was utterly absurd. The coincidence was too far-fetched. If that were the case, the man sitting across from me was Mr. Reed, the father of the country’s most coveted bachelor and one of its most influential figures. It simply didn’t add up. Why would someone of his stature be trying to set me up with his son?

*I was definitely overthinking this.*

The copy he mentioned probably wasn’t Apollo’s; it had to be the second one, or perhaps even a counterfeit.

At least, I hoped so.

“Are you alright, child?” Adam’s voice broke through my swirling thoughts.

I looked up, forcing a smile. “Oh, yes. I’m perfectly fine, just a bit fatigued, that’s all.”

“Then I won’t keep you any longer. Go home and rest, dear. Thank you for keeping this old man company.”

“You’re welcome,” I replied, rising from my seat. But just as I began to stand, he spoke again. “Could I ask for your number?”

“My number?”

He chuckled at my surprised expression. “Don’t worry, I’m not a creep or anything.” His smile radiated warmth, making it impossible to misinterpret his friendly demeanor. “I’m just a lonely old man who appreciates some company now and then. Hardly anyone wants to spend time with me anymore; they’re always too nervous or serious.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “No problem at all.”

He grinned and handed me his phone. I quickly typed in my number and returned it to him.

“Thank you, Grace.”

“Goodbye, sir,” I said, offering one last smile before turning to leave the store.

As soon as I stepped outside, the cool breeze greeted my face, accompanied by the relentless buzzing of my phone. It had been going off the entire time I was with Adam, but I had ignored it out of courtesy.

Now, curiosity piqued, I unlocked the screen.

**Adam**

I watched her depart, her figure diminishing as she strolled down the quiet street. My hands rested comfortably behind my back, and a slow, satisfied smile crept onto my lips.

Behind me, my assistant’s voice shattered the silence. “Mr. Reed.”

I turned slightly, just enough to catch a glimpse of her. “What are your thoughts on that girl?”

She hesitated for a moment before responding. “She’s pure. The kind of person who cares too much, only to be hurt in return.”

A low chuckle escaped my lips. “That’s precisely why I hired you. You might be terrible at making coffee, but your perception is sharp.”

She lowered her head, a faint smile gracing her lips. “Thank you, sir.”

“Look into her.”

Her brows lifted slightly. “After that, sir?”

I smirked, tilting my head as my gaze drifted toward the window where Grace had vanished. “What else? We’ll begin planning a grand wedding.”

Her lips parted in surprise. “You mean—”

“Yes,” I replied, amused by her shock. “I’ll make her Apollo’s wife.”

She frowned slightly. “Mr. Apollo might not appreciate that.”

“You could be right. He might not like it.” My smile deepened, a glint of mischief dancing in my eyes. “But something tells me this girl will be different.”

*EliJa Author*

I love how much we all love Adam. He’s my new favorite character in the book.
