Please Me Daddy (Gracie) novel Chapter 133

Would you like to kiss me, Grace?

Grace

Voices clashed over one another, people yelling orders, others arguing, the sound of rushing feet echoing against the walls. A man carrying boxes nearly collided with someone pushing a cart, and both cursed under their breath.

I blinked, standing at the front of the backstage, watching the chaos unfold with a raised eyebrow. This was supposed to be an organized event, not a battlefield.

With a quiet sigh, I walked toward, only for a security guard to step in front of me, blocking my path.

Backstage pass,he said gruffly.

Without a word, I reached into my purse and showed him the pass clipped to my lanyard. He glanced at it, then gave a small nod and stepped aside. You can go in.

Thanks,I muttered, brushing past him.

The moment I stepped backstage, I regretted it.

It was so much worse.

People were running everywhere, holding props, papers, clothes, flowers, wires, it was a miracle no one had caught on fire yet.

How many times do I have to tell you that Miss Rachel said I should bring the flowers, not you!a girl snapped across the room, her face flushed red.

The other girl turned sharply, rolling her eyes. You were too slow! I was asked to bring it instead! Are you fucking deaf?

They glared at each other like they were seconds away from ripping each other’s hair out.

Before I could even step closer, a man rushed by, clutching a glass vase filled with lilies. He tripped over a cord, stumbling forward with a sharp yelp. Somehow, miraculously, he kept the vase upright, but not without smacking his head on the floor in the process.

Ow-!

Someone groaned nearby. This is a fucking mess! Why are we screwing up everything?

Another voice joined in, panicked. We’re all interns! If we mess up, we’ll get fired!

A third person said, I know, right? Where’s Miss Grace, though? If she was here, she’d already be fixing this.

That made me stop in my tracks.

A few others nodded, murmuring in agreement.

Piper sat in the corner, legs crossed, her perfectly curled hair framing a face full of disdain. She rolled her eyes in exaggerated annoyance and scoffed, loud enough for everyone to hear, Please. Who even wants that ugly nerd?

I sighed and shook my head. Typical Piper.

Before I could say or do anything, someone finally snapped.

You know what?one of the girls shouted, slamming her clipboard down on a table. I’ve had it with you. You’re so damn annoying. I didn’t want to say it before, but why the hell are you always bullying, Miss Grace? She’s actually nice, and helpful. If she were here, she wouldn’t be sitting around doing nothing like you are?

Piper blinked, caught off guard. Her mouth opened, but before she could respond, someone else chimed in.

She’s right. Why are you being a bitch, Piper? If you were half as smart as Miss Grace, maybe it’d make sense. But you’re not. You’re just making everything harder for everyone.

A wave of murmured agreement rippled through the group. Even Piper’s friends, the ones who usually laughed at her side, stayed quiet. One of them even looked away,

Piper’s face went red, crimson spreading from her cheeks down to her neck. She looked around, eyes wide, like she couldn’t believe everyone had turned on her for me.

I froze at the doorway, completely taken aback by the scene in front of me. Everyone was defending me. I hadn’t expected that. Before I could process it any further, I cleared my throat softly and said, What do you guys need help with?

The room fell silent. One by one, they turned around, staring at me like I’d just appeared out of thin air. For a few seconds, no one spoke. They just blinked, eyes dragging from my face to the rest of me.

I frowned, confused. Why are they looking at me like that? And then it hit me.

My face flamed as I remembered what I was wearing, a tight elegant blue dress that clung to my body, a far cry from my usual oversized shirts and loose jeans. I instinctively tugged at the hem, heat rushing up my neck. Um this is-

Oh my god, Miss Grace, you’re so sexy!a woman suddenly yelled.

I blinked, startled. Waitwhat?

That one shout broke whatever silence was left. Everyone started talking at once, rushing toward me so fast I stumbled back a step.

Miss Grace, you look beautiful!

Even with that weird wig and big glasses, your body is tea! Who knew you were hiding all that under those baggy clothes?

Seriously, Miss Grace, you’re glowing!

They surrounded me, their words tumbling over each other until I couldn’t even process half of what they said. My mind blanked. I wasn’t used to people fawning over me. I didn’t know what to do with so many compliments hitting me all at once.

Out of nowhere, one of the interns, a young man with messy brown hair, grabbed my hand. The sudden contact made me flinch.

Atiss Grace, please help us,he said desperately. Everyone’s been arguing for hours, and you’re the only one who can fix this.

I opened my mouth to answer, but a shadow fell over me. A familiar scent filled the air, curling around my senses, and then a hand came to rest on my shoulder.

My breath caught in my throat.

I didn’t even have to turn to know who it was.

My heart stuttered.

RiverI breathed, the name leaving my lips in barely more than a whisper.

When I turned, he was standing right behind me, tall, composed, and impossibly handsome, but his eyes weren’t on me, they were locked on the man still holding my hand. His voice was dangerously calm. Take your hand off.

The man froze. Everyone else froze too.

When he didn’t move immediately, someone near him jabbed his side with an elbow, and he jumped slightly, quickly pulling his hand away.

River’s hand lingered on my shoulder a second longer before he stepped aside. I exhaled slowly, forcing a small smile as I turned back to the group.

What can I do to help?I asked.

The interns exchanged surprised glances before breaking into relieved smiles.

You’re helping us? After everything we did?one of them asked softly.

It’s okay,I said. We’re still coworkers. Let’s just get this done.

Miss Grace, you’re a lifesaver,a woman said, already grabbing a clipboard. I’ll give you the list of employees and their tasks, please, regulate us. You’re our boss now.

I shook my head. Please don’t call me that.

Yes, boss!someone yelled from across the room, and everyone else burst into laughter before scattering back

to their tasks.

I couldn’t help but smile, watching them go.

For someone who had sworn not to care what her coworkers thought of her, it still felt nice to be respected, and

seen.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Piper still standing there, arms folded, glaring daggers at me like she wanted to set me on fire with her eyes. I didn’t bother giving her the satisfaction of a reaction.

I had more important things to deal with. Like the infuriating man standing behind me. He had a lazy smile tugging at his lips, his hands tucked neatly into his pockets like he owned the entire damn place.

The arrogant bastard looked amused.

My jaw tightened.

Without thinking, I grabbed his wrist. Come with me.

He raised an eyebrow but didn’t resist, letting me drag him along.

We slipped past a few stagehands and down the narrow hallway, ignoring the curious glances that followed us as we moved between rows of tangled wires and stacked equipment. Eventually, we reached a quieter comer of the backstage, away from the noise and chaos.

I stopped and spun around, anger bubbling up before I could hold it back. Explain yourself, River,I hissed.Where the hell were you? Do you have any idea how worried I was when you didn’t answer my calls? And yesterday, you were even-

I cut myself off, the words catching in my throat. I couldn’t tell him I’d seen him at the hospital.

He looked at me for a moment before stepping in, closing the distance between us. One hand landed on the wall beside my head, the other gently catching my chin. My breath hitched, eyes widening as his face came dangerously close to mine.

River-I started, but he tilted his head, his gaze locking onto mine.

His fingers tightened slightly under my chin, his touch warm, tilting my face up until I couldn’t look away. His thumb brushed across my bottom lip, slow and careful, like he was memorizing the feel of it.

He tilted his head slightly, his voice dropping to a murmur. Would you like to kiss me, Grace?
