Apollo

Quinn reached for the restroom door, tried turning the handle, then frowned. It’s not opening, she said, confused. Sir, it’s locked.

Adam frowned. Huh. Maybe she went to another restroom There’s an outoforder sign. She probably saw it and went somewhere else.

Genesis nodded. Yeah, let’s check somewhere el-

Move,I said.

Quinn stepped aside instantly. I didn’t think. I didn’t calculate. I just drove my fist straight into the doorknob. A sharp crack echoed through the hallway. Pain shot up my arm, warm blood immediately dripping down my knuckles, but the door didn’t move.

“What on earth are you doing?!my father shouted.

I ignored him and hit it again. The metal rattled but still held. More blood dripped from my knuckles, but I barely felt the tear in my skin.

Apollo, what happened? What’s wrong?Genesis asked.

I blocked them out. My heartbeat thundered in my ears, drowning everything else.

I stepped back, breathing hard. Shrugged off my jacket and let it fall to the floor. Tore off my tie. Unbuttoned my shirt cuffs. I wrapped the tie tightly around my bleeding fist, pulling until the fabric bit into my skin.

I raised my arm, and punched.

This time the entire doorknob ripped out, clattering across the tiles. The force jolted through my shoulder, but the door cracked open. I kicked it, shoving it wide with my leg.

When I saw what was inside, I froze.

I have lost multimilliondollar contracts because of someone else’s incompetence. I have watched my company’s stocks crash over a stupid scandal. I watched my wife die right in front of me. But in my fortytwo years of living, I have never been this angry.

To me, anger was an emotion that made a man irrational. It takes over, makes you act on impulse, and in that state, mistakes are made, words are thrown like weapons, actions become reckless. And once the feeling fades, regret settles in, because you allowed anger to override common sense. I truly believed I would never feel that kind of rage.

That was until this moment.

Grace was on the cold floor, her face flushed red, eyelids heavy, breath trembling. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Her hair and clothes were a mess. She looked weak, dazed, and a man was on top of her, pinning her down.

My father’s horrified voice tore through the room.

Grace!

Genesis gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. Oh my God

I didn’t hear them. I couldn’t hear anything over the roar iny ears. All I saw was red. All I felt was the violent urge to destroy everything in front of me.

Grace’s eyes found mine, glassy and desperate.

She whimpered. Apollo

That was when something inside me snapped so completely, and I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.

All of their faces went pale at once. The man, a manager I recognized, stared at me with wide, terrified eyes and stammered, Ssir, let me explain. That girl agreed to this. She’s a slut-

I didn’t let him finish. My fist collided with his jaw before the word even left his mouth. He screamed, stumbling back and crashing onto the floor. The woman beside him gasped, stepping away from me as if she knew her life depended on it.

The man on top of her tried to scramble away when he realized I was coming for him, but I grabbed his collar, yanked him off her with one hand, and threw him to the ground. He hit the floor hard, his skull making a sickening sound as it struck the tiles, and he screamed in pain.

My father rushed past me, dropping to his knees and holding Grace. Grace, are you okay? You’re shaking. Look at

me.

Genesis knelt beside him, her hands trembling as she pulled Grace’s dress back down, then fumbled her phone out of her pocket. I’m calling 911-

Grace clung to my father’s shirt as she cried, her entire body trembling out of control. My jaw clenched until it ached. I looked at the man crawling away on the floor.

He panicked the moment our eyes met and stuttered, Nno, wait-

I crouched over him, grabbed his shirt, and punched him in the face. Then I punched him again. And again. Each hit made his head snap sideways as blood poured from his mouth and nose.

How dare you touch her,I growled between my teeth. I hit him again. How dare you lay your hands on her.Another punch. How dare you even look at her.

He tried to push me away, but his attempts were weak. I tightened my grip and kept hitting him, my breath harsh and fast as blood splattered on the tiles. I didn’t care if he lived. I didn’t care if he died. I wanted him erased.

Someone grabbed my shoulder, and shouted my name. Their voices didn’t reach me at all. Genesis finally stepped in front of me, yelling, Stop! Apollo, stop! You’re going to kill him!

I drew my fist back again.

Adam, do something! Everyone is watching!

Behind me, my father shouted, furious, Do something? Do something about this?! No! Let him finish him! That bastard deserves to die for putting his hands on my daughterinlaw! If he doesn’t kill him, I swear to God, I’ll kill him myself!1

Genesis froze, shocked. I was seconds away from landing another hit when suddenly a small, shaking hand wrapped around my wrist.

I stopped instantly,

I didn’t need to turn around to know whose touch it was. I would know that touch even in the dark, even in a crowd of thousands.

ApolloGrace whispered, her voice barely holding together, Please stop. You will kill him.

My fist was still raised, my entire body coiled with rage. She held tighter.

My heart clenched so violently it hurt. I let my fist fall. My breath shuddered out of me as I dragged a hand through my hair and finally turned to her.

She was shaking uncontrollably, her cheeks wet with tears, yet she was holding me as if I was the only thing keeping her upright. In that moment, something inside me finally clicked into place.

I understood why I couldn’t get her out of my head.

Why I flew back earlier. Why the mere idea of her being hurt made something monstrous inside me wake up.

I realized the truth.

I had fallen in love with her.

With the shy, clumsy woman who wandered into my room by accident, asking me to sleep with her. With the woman who tried so hard to smile even though she carried so much pain alone. With the woman who never asked for help but always needed it the most.

I was in love with Grace.

I reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face, my fingers lingering on her cheek. Yes,I said, my voice nothing like the one I’d been using moments ago. Let’s go home.

I slid my arm under her legs and lifted her. She gasped quietly but didn’t resist, she simply curled into me, as if being close to me finally eased something inside her.

The entire room gasped.

I turned to Austin, who looked shaken and furious as he took in Grace’s condition.

Take care of it,I said.

Yes, sir,Austin answered immediately. I’ll fire them and have them arrested.

Have them arrested?I repeated. If you think I’ll give them a punishment as simple as that, you’re mistaken.

Austin straightened, bracing himself.

Ruin them,I said. Everything they have. Ruin their families, their relatives, their friends. Every business they ever walk into. Every opportunity they ever seek. If they have favorite restaurants, close them. Destroy everything they touch. Austin, make even breathing a torture for them!?

Austin bowed his head. Yes, sir.

The manager and the woman both paled, stepping forward desperately. Sir! Please, let us explain-

Quinn and Chase immediately blocked them, forcing them back.

I didn’t waste another second.

I carried Grace out of the bathroom and into the hall. The moment we stepped out, silence crashed over the room. Every head turned, eyes widening at the sight of her in my arms.

Near the entrance, I saw River. His chest was rising and falling sharply as if he’d sprinted the entire way after hearing what happened. His eyes dropped to the woman in my arms. For a moment, something murderous crossed his face.

When he looked back at me, he shut his eyes, jaw tight, as if he hated the choice he was making. But he stepped

aside.

I walked out of the hall without looking back, tightened my grip on the woman in my arms, and slid into the car with her still held against my chest.

Only after the door shut did I finally breathe again.

Ryan

I tilted my head, taking a slow sip of my drink as I watched the chaos unfold below. I wasn’t sure what part surprised me more, the fact that the coldblooded demon himself nearly beat a man to death over a woman, or that the woman in question was her.

Huh. How amusing.Beside me, Theodore murmured. Is that not your rival? I thought you said he had a heart of stone.

I slid my free hand into my pocket, eyes never leaving the scene of Apollo carrying her out like the world might collapse without her. “I did,I said simply. I’m surprised too. I’ve never seen him act this way.

Theodore smirked, brushing a strand of black hair out of his face. With the same blue eyes as me, the same features, only softer, and more mischievous, he drew attention wherever he went. No wonder he was the most soughtafter actor in the world.

Well,Theodore said, relaxing back against the wall as if watching a private drama, that was quite an award- winning show. I’m impressed.

When you called me saying you saw a woman in the hospital who looked exactly like us and might actually be our real sister, I thought you were messing with me. But seeing her nowTheodore trailed off, his smile fading into something thoughtful. Yeah. I see what you meant. She might really be the true heiress of the Jones family.

Theodore turned his head, studying me. But even though you know, you’re not doing anything about it. You could confirm everything with one simple DNA test. You’re the hospital director. The second richest man in the world. Why don’t you want to find out?

His question hung in the air.

I took another sip of my drink, letting the alcohol burn down my throat before I answered, indifferent, I was planning on doing that. But with how things areI shrugged. I think I’ll watch for now.

Huh?

A slow smile tugged at my lips. Things just got more interesting after all.

Theodore snorted and pushed off the wall. You really are a psychopath, Ryan.He stretched, cracking his neck, Anyway, I guess I’ll stay in the country for now, and spend some time with my potential little sister.
