You never fail to amaze me, princess
Apollo
I stared at the document spread open on my desk, my gaze dark and unreadable as I scanned through the numbers and clauses for the third time. The sleeves of my shirt were rolled up to my elbows, exposing the veins running along my forearms, and at some point during the afternoon I had pushed my fingers through my hair so many times that it now fell messily over my
forehead.
My head had been throbbing for a while, but I ignored it, just like I ignored everything else that tried to slow me down. Pain was irrelevant. Discomfort was irrelevant. None of it mattered as long as the work was done.
But the pounding behind my temples gradually became sharper, and more persistent, until the words in front of me began to blur together and I found myself rereading the same sentence without processing it.
I exhaled slowly.
Removing my glasses, I set them down on the desk and rubbed the bridge of my nose, pressing my fingers against the middle of my brows in an attempt to ease the ache. For a moment, I simply sat there in silence, letting the tension settle down.
I pulled open the drawer beside me, intending to take out the painkillers I kept there. Instead, my eyes landed on the small velvet box resting inside.
The diamond ring caught the light even in the dimness of the drawer, reflecting a cold, brilliant sparkle.
I tilted my head slightly.
This wasn’t like me.
At least, that was what I would have said in the past. But lately, I no longer thought that way.
With each passing day I spent with her, I began to realize that perhaps this had always been me, just a version of myself I had never allowed to exist. I used to think I wasn’t the kind of man who would buy the most expensive ring in the world simply because he could picture spending the rest of his life with a woman. After everything that had happened in my past, I believed I had already reached my final form. I believed the old version of Apollo Reed was complete, untouchable, already the best he
could ever be.
I was wrong.
With her, it turns out I was exactly that kind of man.
The greedy kind.
The more I had, the more I wanted. And what I wanted, was to stand beside her forever.
If that was the future I desired, then I had no choice but to become better than I was yesterday. I had to become someone she could rely on without hesitation. Someone who would not crumble. Someone who would not drag her down with unresolved trauma and unfinished battles.
I could not lose her. Not because of my past, or my weakness.
Before I could ask her to marry me, before I even deserved to kneel in front of her, I had to clear every obstacle that might threaten her future.
I ran a hand through my already messy hair and let out a quiet breath.
Nothing had ever affected me like this before. In the past, I could walk away from anything without a second thought. People, deals, emotions, it made no difference.
Now…I couldn’t even imagine a life without her in it.

A faint, almost self–mocking smile touched my lips. “Apollo,” I muttered under my breath, you’re really a mined man.”
I closed the drawer firmly and picked up the document again, forcing myself back into forms, fost as I was about to continge reading, the office door opened without warning
Without looking up, I spoke coldly, “If you opened that door like that, you must have a very good reason, Chase
It wasn’t a question. It was a warning
I was already stretched thin, and the last thing I wanted was unnecessary interruption.
No answer came.
I frowned slightly but kept my eyes on the document. “Get out.”
I heard slow footsteps.
Good. He understood. I thought, but just as I assumed he had left, a soft voice drifted across the room.
Awwn, I should go? But I came here to have fun with you.”
My entire body stilled, and the document in my hand stopped midair.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze, and there she was. On the other side of my desk, kneeling slightly so that her chin rested against the edge of the table, her bright eyes looking up at me with mischief and warmth.
Grace.
For a moment, I simply stared at her, the headache, the documents, the entire world fading into the background
My dark eyes stayed on her, fixed and unmoving, as if my brain had short–circuited the moment she appeared in front of me Everything inside my head went completely blank.
She tilted her head slightly, her voice soft when she spoke. “Can I stay with you for a while, though? I’ll leave when you get busy.”
I looked at her for a long moment, as if I needed to confirm she was actually there, and then a faint, almost helpless smile formed on my lips.
“I must be so tired,” I said quietly, my voice low, almost amused with myself, “that I’m seeing things now. I must be dreaming”
She blinked at me, clearly caught off guard. “Dream?”
“Yes,” I continued calmly, my gaze never leaving her face. “But you know, it doesn’t matter. Whether this is a dream or reality, every moment with you is something I would never trade for the world.”
Her mouth parted at my words, color blooming across her cheeks as her face flushed beautifully. Before she could even think of a reply, I stood up and crossed the distance between us in a single stride, my arms wrapping around her waist as I lifted her effortlessly and pressed my lips to hers.
