Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Jaxon
The drive home is quiet for a long time. Noah lets me have the silence. Lets me process without commentary for twenty minutes.
Then his patience finally snaps. “You need to let her go, Jax. I don’t mean the way you behave toward her. You’ve done way better than I expected at that. I mean within yourself. Really let her go.”
“I can’t.” The words come out before I can stop them. “I love her.”
“I know you do.” He sighs.
“I finally figured out that I love her, and it’s too late. She’s already chosen someone else. I’m such a fucking idiot! I thought if I gave her space, just showed her I could give up control, and gave her time to heal, then maybe we could start over. Bring our baby into the world together, be a family. But now I’ll never get that chance.”
“Has she? Chosen someone else?” Noah asks. “Or are you assuming? Have you actually asked her? Maybe she just feels indebted to him for the kindness he’s shown her. ”
“I don’t need to ask. I see how she is with him.” My jaw is tight. “I see how she laughs with him. How she relaxes. How she leans into his touch without thinking about it. It’s not obligation, it’s real.” My voice breaks on the last part. “She never did that with me. In three years, she never-”
“Because you never gave her a reason to.” The words land like a flat blow.
True. Unavoidable.
“Then maybe it’s time to accept it,” Noah continues. “To be grateful you get to be Benji’s father. To let Skye be happy. Even if it’s not with you. Move on, find your own happiness, Jax.”
“That’s easy to say-” I argue.
“No. It isn’t.” Noah’s voice is harder now. “It’s the hardest thing I’ll ever ask you to do. But it’s the right thing.”
I pull over at a rest stop. I can’t drive anymore. Can’t maintain the basic function of keeping my eyes on the road when everything in my chest is collapsing.
I put the car in park and sit with my hands on the wheel, staring at nothing. “I destroyed the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“Yes,” Noah says.
No softening. No but. No you couldn’t have known. Just: yes.
I almost laugh. “You’re not going to argue with me? Try to make me feel better? Some best friend you are.”
“No. You did. And you need to be able to say it clearly before you can move past it.”
“And now I have to watch her fall in love with someone else.” My voice cracks on a barely restrained sob.
“If you’re lucky.” Noah turns to face me. “If you’re unlucky, she’ll go back to being alone because you broke her too badly to trust anyone else. That would be worse, Jax. That would be the real consequence of what you did.”
The thought hits me somewhere I wasn’t prepared for. Skye alone. Skye closed off. Skye never laughing like that again because I damaged something irreparably.

That would be worse.
Woolf isn’t like you,” Noah continues. “He’s not controlling. He’s not cold. At least not with her. He doesn’t treat her like an obligation or a problem to manage. He sees her value.” He doesn’t sugarcoat it. “If she chooses him, it’s because he’s earned it. Not because she was manipulated or pressured or had nowhere else to go.”
“I know,” I whisper.
“And?”
“And that’s what makes it unbearable.” I press my hand to my face. “Knowing she could have been happy with me if I’d just-if I had just been-”
“Better,” Noah says simply.
“Yes.” What else can I say?
We sit in silence for a while. Cars pass on the road. Life continuing indifferently.
“What do I do?” I ask finally.

“Don’t contest it.” My voice is hollow. “Whatever Skye wants for our baby, she gets. Tell Romano it’s acceptable.”
re you certain? You’d be legally formalizing another man’s-”
“I’m certain.” I end the call. And sit in the dark.
Skye isn’t just staying at Woolf territory temporarily. She’s not just accepting protection while she heals. She’s building a future there. Laying foundations. Creating a life with Nicolai Woolf that includes legal profections for
my son.
She’s chosen. And my role in her life is shrinking to the one thing I can’t be replaced in-biology. Benji’s father. That’s what I am now. That’s what I’ll be.
And maybe if Noah is right-maybe being the best version of that is the one thing I can still do right. Maybe it’s the only redemption left to me.
I sit in the dark for a long time. And for the first time since I lost her, I don’t try to figure out how to get her back. I just sit with the grief of having thrown her away.
And let it be exactly what it is.
