Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 215
Chapter 215
Nicolai
Later. Much later, after we’ve all taken a much needed nap, Skye shifts restlessly between us. Her scent isn’t quite as strong, so I don’t think it’s another wave of heat. I run my fingers through her dark hair, hoping to soothe her back to sleep, but she’s already awake.
“Nicolai.” She whispers, trying not to wake Jaxon.
“Mm.” I hum softly in response
She turns slightly, looking at me. It’s dark but I can see a slight frown on her face. “Are you okay?” Her voice is hoarse from the last few days but I hear the concern in her tone.
I consider her question for a minute, searching my feelings for the truth, knowing she wants more than the/ reflexive “fine” it would be easier to give right now.
“Yes,” I say finally. Simple but honest.
“Don’t just-”
“I’m not.” I rush to reassure her, pulling her closer and dropping gentle kisses on her eyes, nose, cheeks. “I’m genuinely okay. Ask me something harder.”
She’s quiet for a moment.
“Are you glad?” she asks eventually. “About how everything turned out?”
That is a harder question. I think about the mark on my shoulder that is hers-put there by the woman who is lying between me and the man I never expected to share anything with, let alone this. The man who also wears her mark. Am I glad she’s tied to both of us forever?
“Yes, I’m glad.” I admit, to myself as much as her.
“You’re sure?”
“I’m sure.” I lift her chin, locking eyes with her. “Are you?”
She looks back at me-her fingers trailing over my mark on her shoulder and his mark on the other side, her gaze drifting to her marks on both of us, and the heat settling into something quieter and permanent.
“I’ve been sure,” she smiles shyly at the admission, “since before I knew I was allowed to be.”
I hold her gaze so she can see I mean my words.
“Then we’re agreed,” I repeat the words I’ve said so often before. Words I only use when I absolutely mean them.
We’re agreed is ours-from the terrace that first night, the first real agreement we made, the phrase that started something. She hears it in what I’m saying and I know she hears it.
“We’re agreed,” she confirms.
I settle her to lay across my chest, wrapping her tightly in my arms. It’s not long before she falls back to sleep, the waves of her heat stretching farther now that it’s winding down.
From Jaxon’s side, his breathing evens into the rhythm of someone who went down hard and is not coming back up for a while. The man drove through the night to rescue Skye, climbed through a window and fought his way in

and back out again, only to spend the next few days tending to Skye’s heat with sleep in short supply. I’d say he’s earned it.
I lie in the dark. Skye’s hand is in mine- she reached for it in sleep, or she never quite let go. One of those. I hold it. And I think.
This is my family. Not the family I planned. Not the kind that makes sense in any conventional frame or the world. 1 operate in. Unconventional. Unprecedented.
But mine.
She chose. She chose me and she chose Jaxon and she built something that holds both bonds and both men and a child we all love equally. And I-
The truth I let in fully, lying here in the dark is, I am glad. Not despite Jaxon. Including him.
The man who spent three years failing her and then spent a year becoming someone worth choosing. Who couldn’t have done either without the specific sequence of events that produced this room, this night. The whole pattern was necessary. Every piece of it.
I’m a precise man. I find the precision in this and let it settle. Then I turn my mind to other things.
Savin’s network. Volkov’s complicity. What Tatiana did to Skye in that basement-what she said about Benji, about being there to comfort me, about raising my son. I hold this thought very carefully, the way you hold something that would be dangerous to squeeze too hard.
I will deal with this. Not tonight. Not impulsively. Impulsive is not how I do things.
But permanently.
The arrangement at the estate that my enemies called weakness turned out to be two Alpha networks working in concert-something that hasn’t existed in this territory in living memory. They significantly underestimated what they were looking at.
I’m going to make sure the lesson lands.
I close my eyes. Tomorrow I’ll start making calls. Tonight—this. My mate’s hand in mine. Her other mate asleep beside us. The estate quiet around us and her heat calm for now. Peaceful.
The Woolf family is not what my enemies thought it was.
Tomorrow they’ll begin to understand that.
Tonight is enough.
