Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 223
Chapter 223
Jaxon
By the time evening rolls around, I’ve spent a long but productive day in the office and I’m more than ready to reconnect with my mate. I make it back to our room and find Skye already waiting on the terrace.
She’s where she often is at dusk-the particular spot near the railing that looks out over the estate grounds, the garden visible below, the house behind her. It’s become her favorite spot to unwind after a long day and the placé we all gravitate to in the evening. Because we gravitate to her.
I sit beside her, reaching over to pull her into my lap. She tucks her head under my chin and wraps her arms around my waist, snuggling into me. Neither of us speaks immediately, just content to breathe each other in.
This has been one of the things I’ve learned this year-not every silence needs filling. Some silences are the space where two people can simply exist in proximity to each other and let that be what it is.
“I’ve been thinking,” I say eventually.
“About?”
“The fact that I spent my whole life not knowing what I wanted my life to look like.” I run my fingers through her silky hair. “I had Ironwood and I thought that was it-that was what I was meant to do. Run the pack. Manage the territory. Hold the role my father handed me.” I pause. “I didn’t know there could be anything more important than that for me. Something I could be even prouder of.”
Skye tips her head back to look at me and I drop a kiss to her lips. The bond lights up between us-both bonds, hers and mine and Nicolai’s, the whole connected, pulsing with life and electricity.
know now,” I tell her. “Loving you is what I was always meant to do. I love you, Skye.”
A blush that never gets old spreads over her cheeks, down her neck, reaching places I can’t see at the moment but know it’s there all the same.
“Yes,” she smiles affectionately. “I know you do.”
I put my arm around her. She leans into it. And the easy way she leans into me without thinking about it. The way she fits against me so perfectly. It has me falling for her all over again.
Falling for Skye feels like breathing fresh air and drowning at the same time. It leaves me completely off balance, spinning out of control with nothing to hold onto. It’s terrifying but I’m so addicted to the rush, I want to jump over and over again.
We sit there, clinging to each other with no concept of time. Surrounded by the estate grounds in the evening light, the garden she loves, the house that became a home for both of us in different ways at different times for reasons neither of us could have predicted.
After a while I hear the door behind us. Footsteps. Nicolai.
He finds us the way he always finds us-cuddled up together, but waiting for him to join us, completing our circle. He sits on Skye’s other side. Doesn’t say anything. A man of few words unless he’s using them to taunt me, apparently.
We’re quiet for a long time, the three of us on the terrace, just existing. Benji’s inside, asleep, already mid-dream if the sounds on the monitor are any indication. The estate is quiet and there’s nowhere else we’re supposed to be. It’s a moment I could never relax enough to enjoy before, but one I live for now.

“We better enjoy these moments while they last,” Skye says, breaking the silence. “Peace and quiet will be in short supply a few months from now.”
“Why is that, Moonbeam?” Nicolai questions her, but I’m already catching on.
“Skye? Does that mean what I think it ineans?” I ask before she can answer him.
“Mean what?” Nicolai tilts his head, his analytical mind working overtime but coming up empty.
“I don’t know.” Skye smirks mischievously. “Do you think it means another tiny pup demanding our attention, 3/ am feedings and constant sleep deprivation?”
“Fuck, yes!” I cheer, picking her up and swinging her around.
“You’re pregnant?” Nicolai mutters, looking equal parts awed and stunned, still frozen in his chair.
But I’ve already tossed our girl over my shoulder and headed for our bedroom. “Let’s go Woolf!” I call over my shoulder while Skye giggles. “We’re celebrating!”
He jumps into action, stumbling along behind us, still muttering to himself, “I’m going to be a father. Another baby. I’m going to have another baby.”
Not that I can blame him for being awe-struck. I thought nothing could top the day Benji was born. But the love of your life giving you two beautiful babies to love…
It’s the best gift a man could ever ask for.
