Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 247
Ch.19
Cassandra
Noah is sending me a message. A message that clearly says “You’re not a priority. I’ll get to you when I get to you.” Well, message received.
He’s left me waiting in this tiny room for an hour and the longer I wait, the more effort it takes not to claw out of my skin. My nerves are officially shot.
My heart rate kicks up when I finally hear footsteps in the corridor, like it’s trying to race right out of my chest 1 stiffen-absorbing what my ribs have to say about that–and shift Liam into a position that will let me stand without dropping him. He stirs but doesn’t fully wake when I settle him in the chair beside me with his head on my folded up jacket.
I gingerly push to standing, because I’ll be damned if I meet him from a place of weakness when I finally see him again. “Oh fuck,” I groan at the grind of swollen joints complaining when I move, and hope to hell he didn’t hear
The footsteps pause right outside the door and I take a deep breath, ignoring the way my ribs scream with the act. Everything I planned to say flies right out of my head. I reach for the words but there is nothing there. A complete blank. Oh Goddess, I think I’m having a panic attack!
About a dozen different thoughts start flying through my head. I can’t seem to slow my breathing or my brain. But when the door finally opens, the only one that sticks is: He’s exactly the same.
That’s not useful information at the moment but it’s what I’ve got. Months have passed, and he’s become an Alpha. I guess I expected there to be something different about him. But he’s the same steady, contained, painfully beautiful man he was the last time I saw him. Something in my chest aches at that realization.
“Fucking hell,” Noah mutters under his breath as he takes in my appearance.
I don’t think I was supposed to hear him but I do and it pulls me out of my inner musings. I’m startled to find I’ve been staring at him, slackjawed. And I’m more than a little embarrassed by the flare of heat pooling low in my belly as I take in the muscles rippling under the t-shirt stretched tight across his chest.
My gaze snaps to his and I swallow back the mortification that shows itself on my flushed face. Surprisingly, Noah’s expression is not angry. I prepared for angry. Angry I could have handled.
He’s smirking at me instead. He caught me ogling him and he’s making sure I know I’ve been caught. The heat from my cheeks spreads all the way down my neck and chest. Kill me now, please.
“You look like shit.” Noah comments before I can speak.
There is no hostility in his tone. But there’s no warmth or concern either. Just an observation. A huff of laughter sneaks out at his directness and I immediately regret it, trying and failing to hide my cringe.
“I’m a busy man, Cassandra. Maybe you haven’t heard, but I have a pack to run. Why don’t you tell me why you’re here so we can both get back to our lives. Our very separate lives.” He quips.
It hurts more than I expected. The dismissal in his tone. More than anger would have. More than I have any right to be hurt by, given that I’m the one who earned it.
“I-” I open my mouth to speak but the words don’t come.
I want to tell him I know he’s the alpha now and I’m happy for him. I want to apologize for the way things ended between us, tell him how much I regret my actions. But I know he doesn’t want to hear any of that.

I still have no idea how to make him understand the level of desperation I find myself in. I scramble for the words
hat will make him want to help me but there aren’t any. In the end, I don’t say anything at all.
Pain, worse than any I’ve had since the attack, ricochet’s through my chest. It’s sharp and sudden, like being stabbed in the lung, taking the breath I was using for words and replacing it with white hot fire.
Several things happen at once after that.
“Mama!” Liam calls in his quiet voice.
“Cassandra? Fuck!” Noah grunts.
My vision doubles, then blurs out altogether. The room tilts, I feel myself stumble and the floor seems closer than it should be.
“Fuck, this is going to hurt.” It’s the last conscious thought I have.
Whether I mean hitting the floor, or facing the mate who rejected me…
That’s anyone’s guess.
