Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 274
Ch. 44
Noah
It’s been two days since my confrontation with Piper about my relationship with Cassandra. The one where I finally told her the truth.
Two days to think about what the hell I’m doing with my life and who I’m doing it with. And while that was long enough for me to make some important decisions, it’s still way too short to convince my wolf those decisions are the right ones.
Not that my timeline matters much right now. None of my decisions mean anything until Piper makes her own. And I know her well enough by now to know when Piper makes a decision, she makes it and then she shows up to deliver it. She’s not in the habit of drawing it out just to make a point.
So I’m not the least bit surprised when she comes to my office ready to talk. Private. Deliberate. Determined. She looks like a woman who has been doing some real thinking and arrived at a decision she’s comfortable with. I’m just not sure she’s decided it’s me.
I’ve always found confidence in a woman sexy and she’s no exception. Piper exudes it now, standing in my doorway with her arms loose at her sides and that self-assured smile of hers. She knows what she wants. Apparently, I’m about to find out what that is.
“I need to know one thing before I say what I came to say.” She informs me, her hip cocked to one side and her eyes narrowed at
“Oh, yeah? What’s that?” I grin at her sassy attitude, stalking toward her. But she just smirks and puts a hand to my chest to hold me back.
I grab her hand and place a kiss on her palm, but keep my distance, respecting her space. She melts into me for a minute, then her head snaps up, fixing her eyes on mine.
“Are you choosing me?” Her expression turns serious. “Or are you just choosing not to deal with the harder thing? Forgiving your fated mate?”
I’m never quite prepared for the way Piper manages to get right to the heart of the matter. In this case, the honest answer lives somewhere in the complicated territory between those two options. But I know which side of the line I’m standing on and I know which direction I’m facing. I can give her that much.
“I’m choosing you,” I say with certainty, closing the distance between us and whispering the rest in her ear. “Fate can go fuck itself.”
She pulls back and gasps dramatically, her hand coming over her chest. “Noah Stephens! Braving the Moon Goddess’ wrath for me?” She teases, using her most scandalized tone before turning serious. “But if you’re sure, then I’m here.”
