Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 275

Ch.45

Noah

My wolf does not agree with my dick when it comes to Piper. The closer I get to her, the more he goes quiet. Not the good quiet, not the contented kind. This is the silent treatment, deliberately choosing not to communicate with me because he doesn’t respect my choices.

I pull her into my arms anyway. She’s warm and soft and it’s been entirely too long since I held a woman this way. Her hands find my shirt buttons with the same unhurried patience she brings to everything, and I let her, and when her palms press flat against my chest something in me settles into the moment by force of will.

“Hey,” she says quietly. “You still with me?”

“I’m here,” I assure her. And I make it true.

I am here because I refuse to be anywhere else. I pull her in and kiss her the way I mean to kiss her-nothing held back, no hedging–and she makes a sound against my mouth that tells me she’s been waiting for this. That hits me right in the chest. She matters to me. This matters.

We end up on the couch because both of us are beyond practical concerns like finding a bed. I don’t give a damn, and apparently neither does she. Her fingers dig into my shoulders when I finally get my hands on her properly, brushing my thumbs over her pretty, pink nipples, so tight and hard for me. And the sound she makes, my name on her lips in that husky tone, like she can’t quite help it does something to the tension I’ve been carrying for months.

I take my time with her. She deserves that. She more than deserves it.

I slip two fingers inside her and she arches up into me when I find what she needs, gasping my name again, and I stay right there, watching her face come apart with the specific satisfaction of a man who has been paying attention. When she pulls me up and over her, looking up at me with those steady eyes, I hold her gaze and choose to be completely, entirely present.

“Good?” I say against her jaw.

“Don’t stop,” she breathes. “Please don’t stop.”

I don’t stop, notching myself at her entrance and pushing into her inch by inch, groaning at the tight heat of her squeezing me as I stretch her. Setting an unhurried but steady pace, I make love to her until we’re both falling together, her orgasm milking

me of mine.

Afterwards, I roll us over, pulling her with me. She falls asleep easily. I tuck her in against my side while she sleeps and she’s out within a few minutes, her breathing evening into something slow and deep.

I lie awake. Not with regret. I want to be clear about that, even to myself, because the temptation to dress it up as regret is real and I’m not going to do it. This was good. She was good. I’m glad it happened. I mean every word of that.

My wolf still isn’t saying anything. That silence is doing something to me that I don’t have a name for.

I chose Piper. I meant it when I chose. I mean it right now. And I’ve been at odds with my wolf for months-disagreeing with what he wants, what he thinks he knows about our mate, the fact he keeps clawing for her regardless of what I’ve decided. K dealt with it then and I can deal with it right now.

Sleep must have come for me at some point because the next thing I know, it’s morning. She gets up before me, finds her clothes without drama, comes back to press a kiss to my temple that I’m not fully awake for. By the time I walk her to the door, the morning light is spilling across the grounds and everything looks bright and clean.

At the door, she pauses. Turns back. “I know that wasn’t simple for you,” There’s a sadness in her eyes as she says it that I don’t like at all.

“It was good.” I rush to reassure her.

“I know.” The corner of her lip turns up in a soft smile. “That’s not the same as simple.”

She kisses my cheek and ships out the door. I stand in the doorway, watching as she walks to her car, and I think, she’s not

wrong.

I go back inside. Make coffee. Pick up my phone from where I left it on the desk last night, and there it is-gate log notification. Automatic, the way they always come throughran my phone.

Cassandra Winters. Signed out: 11:02 PM. Signed back in: 11:47 PM. Forty-five minutes.

I look at the timestamp again before putting the phone down. I don’t know why it bothers rae. I’m not tracking her movements -the gate log comes to my phone because all gate logs come to my phone, that’s just the system. I happened to see it. It means nothing.

So why do I pick the phone back up and look at it again? 11:02 to 11:47. Nope, I’m not going to think about where she was for forty -five minutes in the dark last night, on the night I chose Piper.
