Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Jaxon

I can’t stop replaying the conversation.

Skye went to Woolf for help. Trusted him-another Alpha, someone she hasn’t seen in years-over her own mate. And now she’s meeting with Diana in secret, discussing things she won’t share with me.

The betrayal burns like acid in my chest.

I’m in her office, standing in the middle of the room where she just dismissed me like I was nothing, looking for… what? Evidence? Proof that she’s planning something worse than just going behind my

back?

I start with her desk. Carefully at first, then with growing frustration as I find nothing but the mundane paperwork of a dutiful Luna. Pack schedules. Charity event planning. Budget proposals for community

projects.

Three years of service. Three years of her doing everything expected of her while I-

I shove the thought away and move to her filing cabinet.

Medical records for pack members. Correspondence with other Lunas about regional cooperation. Thank you notes from families she’s helped.

Nothing incriminating. Nothing that suggests betrayal or deception or whatever I’m looking for.

Which somehow makes me feel worse.

“What are you doing?”

I spin around to find Noah standing in the doorway, his expression a mixture of disbelief and disgust.

“Making sure there’s nothing else she’s hiding,” I say, hating how defensive I sound.

“You’re going through your wife’s things?” Noah steps into the room, closing the door behind him. “Do you hear yourself?”

“She’s been lying to me. Meeting with Woolf, planning things with Diana-”

“So ask her directly.” Noah’s voice is sharp. “Have an honest conversation like adults instead of spying and interrogating.”

“I tried. She won’t tell me anything.”

“Maybe because you’ve given her no reason to trust you.” Noah moves closer, his eyes hard. “You want honesty? Try giving it first. Tell her why it bothers you so much that she asked Woolf for help.”

“It bothers me because she went behind my back-”

“It bothers you because another Alpha was there for her when you weren’t,” Noah interrupts. “And you hate that. But instead of fixing why she had to go to someone else, you’re punishing her for it.”

The accuracy of the observation makes me want to put my fist through the wall.

“She’s my mate,” I say through gritted teeth. “She should have come to me first.”

“Why?” Noah’s question is brutally simple. “You already told her no. You refused to help her family. What was she supposed to do-just accept it? Let her stepbrother rot in prison because you were too proud to get involved?”

“That’s not-”

“That’s exactly what it was.” Noah’s disappointment is palpable. “And now you’re angry that she found another way. That she has connections and resources that don’t depend on you. Because god forbid your wife have any agency of her own.”

“Get out.”

“Gladly.” Noah heads for the door, then pauses. “I love you like a brother, Jax. But she deserves better than this. Better than you’ve given her. And I think you know it.”

The door closes behind him with devastating finality.

back. You can’t blame me for-*

“Get out.”

Jaxon-

“I said get out.” My Alpha command bleeds into the words, and Cassandra has no choice but to obey. 2

She leaves without another word, and I’m alone with the realization that now she’s another name on a

long list of people I owe apologies to. She caught me at a bad time, but even I know it’s not her fault Skye is angry with me.

I could have told Cassandra no when she asked to stay. But part of me enjoyed having her close, feeling like the man I used to be when we were together. Maybe I still do. ↑

Fuck! I don’t know!

She is right about one thing, though.

My marriage was already imploding.

I just didn’t want to see it.
