Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Skye
I’m still on the phone when I hear footsteps on the garden path.
“I have to go,” I say quickly, ending the call with Nicolai and tucking my phone into my pocket.
Jaxon emerges from the shadows, his face tight with barely controlled emotion.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
“I needed air.”
His eyes drop to my pocket where I just put my phone. “Who were you talking to?”
“A friend.”
“What friend?” His voice hardens. “At this hour?”
“Someone who actually cares about my wellbeing.”
The barb hits home. Jaxon flinches. “I care about you. You’re carrying my child-”
“That’s not the same thing.”
He moves closer, and I force myself not to retreat. Not to show weakness.
“You were going to leave,” he says. It’s not a question. “You were planning to divorce me and take my child, and never tell me about the pregnancy.”
There’s no point in lying now. “Yes. I was.”
“How could you?” His voice cracks with what sounds like genuine hurt. “How could you plan to take my baby away from me?”
“Like you left me to die in a storm?” I stand, meeting his eyes. “Left me and your unborn child to freeze to death while your only concern was Cassandra and her son? At least I would have made sure you knew about the child eventually. You would have had visitation rights. I wouldn’t have disappeared. And that’s more than you deserve after the way you’ve treated me.”
I take a step closer, my voice dropping to something cold and sharp.
“But you? You were willing to let me die. Maybe it wasn’t even a conscious decision. Maybe you just didn’t consider my safety at all. And that’s even worse!”
“That’s not-I sent someone-”
“Too late!” My hands curl into fists at my sides. “You sent someone way too late. I could have died in that time, Jaxon. Me and the baby I was already carrying. But you didn’t know that then, did you? So what’s your excuse?”

The comparison hits him like a physical blow. I watch him struggle to find words, to defend himself.
He can’t.
Because we both know I’m right. The only reason he cares now is because he knows I’m pregnant. He
didn’t know it then so I had no value to him.
“That was different,” he finally says. “Liam was sick-”
“Liam is always sick,” I interrupt. “Conveniently sick whenever Cassandra needs your attention. And you fall for it every time.”
“He’s my son-”

I pull it out, shielding the screen with my hand
A text from Nicola: I’m two hours out. Call if you need me sooner.
I delete the message immediately, my heart pounding.
Two hours. He’s already on the road. Already coming. And he offered, I didn’t even have to ask.
I glance back toward the garden and see Jaxon still standing there, watching me. Even from this distance, I can see him staring at the glow of my phone screen.
Wondering who I’m texting at midnight. Good. Let him wonder. Because not once in three years has he ever offered me the kind of unconditional support Nicolai has.
I pocket my phone and continue toward the house, my mind already racing ahead to what comes next.
Because ready or not, this is happening.
The pregnancy is out. Nicolai is coming. And Jaxon is finally realizing that I’m serious about leaving.
Now I just have to figure out how to do it without losing everything-including my child-in the process.
