Pursuing My Rejected Luna novel Skye Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Jaxon
I let all the memories slip away like water through my fingers. But sitting in this garden with her now, watching Skye glow with pregnancy, Noah’s words from months ago suddenly crash over me with devastating clarity.
“You’re in love with your wife. You have been for a long time. You were just too proud to admit it.” 1
Oh goddess. Noah was right. I loved her.
Love her.
I’ve loved her probably since that night at her Shifting Party when the bond snapped into place and I panicked because I’d never felt anything so overwhelming in my life. But I was too scared, too proud, too damaged to accept it.
So I convinced myself it was manipulation. That she’d set a trap for me. That what I felt was weakness, not love. And I destroyed her to protect myself from feelings I was too much of a coward to face.
The realization is crushing. Physical. Like someone reached into my chest and squeezed.
I’m in love with Skye. And it’s too late. Too fucking late.
She’s free now. Happy. Glowing in a way she never did in the three years of our marriage, with our baby growing inside her and an unchartable distance between us.
And I did this. I destroyed the best thing that ever happened to me because I was too proud to admit I
loved her. Fuck, Me. 1
“Jaxon?”
Skye’s voice pulls me back.
I realize I’ve been staring at her, my thoughts written all over my face.
“Sorry. I just… you look beautiful.”
The compliment seems to surprise her and she actually blushes. “Thank you.”
“I mean it. Pregnancy suits you.” It’s nothing but the truth.
She touches her belly self-consciously. “I feel huge.”
“You don’t look huge.” I reassure her. “You look perfect.”
Another awkward silence falls between us. All the things I want to say choking in my throat.
I love you. I’ve always loved you. I’m so sorry I didn’t see it sooner. Please give me another chance. Please-

But I can’t say any of it. Because it’s not fair to her. Not fair to burden her with feelings I should have acknowledged years ago. Not when she’s finally free of me.
The thirty minutes are almost up when Skye winces slightly, her hand going to her belly.
“Are you alright?” I ask immediately, reaching for her before I stop myself, remembering my touch isn’t
welcome.
“Fine. The baby just kicked hard.” She smiles softly, and it transforms her face. “It’s one of the reasons I think he’s a boy. He’s strong for his age. And he’s very active today.”
“Can I…?” I gesture to her belly, hesitant.
Not sure if I’m allowed. If she’ll let me. Skye considers for a long moment. Then nods.
I blow out the breath I was holding as I place my hand where hers was, gentle, and feel it… a strong kick against my palm.
My son. Our son. Moving. Active. Real.
For just a moment, everything else falls away. It’s just us. And the baby. And this perfect moment of
connection.
When I finally make it home, I pour myself a scotch and sit in my office staring at nothing until I can’t take it anymore. I call Noah.
He answers on the second ring. “How’d it go?”
“You were right.” I confess.
Silence. He’s clearly confused by that admission.
“About what?” He finally asks.
“I’m in love with her.” My voice breaks. “I’m in love with Skye. I have been for a long time, I just… I couldn’t admit it. Couldn’t face it. And now it’s too late. I destroyed everything, Noah. I destroyed the one person who actually loved me, and I can’t fix it.”
More silence. Then Noah replies, gentle but firm: “So what are you going to do about it?”
“What can I do? We’re divorced. She’s free. And she’s happy, Noah. Moving on.”
“Is she?” Noah asks quietly. “Or is she just surviving because you left her no choice, Jax?”
I don’t know how to answer that.
“Figure out what you want,” Noah says exasperatedly. “What you really want. Not just some empty words, a knee jerk reaction because you panicked like you gave her before. And then, if you truly want her, decide if you’re brave enough to fight for it. Because you destroyed your marriage by being a coward. Don’t make the same mistake twice.”
The call ends. And I sit in the dark, my hand still tingling from where I felt my son kick, wondering if it’s possible to fix something this broken.
Or if I’ve lost Skye forever.
