Chapter 16
Soon, Angelica’s voice played from the phone. It sounded nothing like her usual soft tone. This time, it was derp and bring “Victoria, why are you acting so ungrateful? Mom and Dad only agreed to bring you back so you could marry Jurkum in my place. You’re just a country girl. You should be thankful for a chance to change your life,
“Instead, you keep picking fights with me. And you even went and called Uncle Hector and Aunt Daisy your parents Sock how awkward things are now.
“Don’t tell me you really think they like you, and that’s why they accepted you.
“It’s just because you’re a Binder by blood. Grandpa might give you a share of the inheritance someday, and that’s all
“Do you even know what this place is? This is where the Binder kids study. I’ve had top private tutors here since I was litte I’ve learned all kinds of skills. I can speak several foreign languages fluently.
“What about you? How many of those skills do you have? Probably none, right? Such a pity. At your age, it’s already too late to start learning.
“But that’s fine. You know how to farm, wash clothes, and cook. I don’t know any of that. I’ll have to learn from you someday.”
As the recording played on, Calvin’s face grew darker and darker.
Victoria knew exactly what mattered most. The insults alone were bad, but what really crossed the line was Angelica bringing up the Binder family fortune.
For Calvin, who still held absolute power in the fan would never tolerate.

That was why Victoria had turned the volume up when those lines played.
Angelica stood frozen, her mind racing as she tried to find a way to fix this.
Darell and Julia both panicked. They hadn’t expected Angelica to say somethin have it recorded and played in front of Calvin.

Calvin’s face turned cold and heavy. “Angelica, you’re just an adopted daughter of the Binder family. I’m not even dead yet. and you’re already thinking about how to divide my estate.”
Tears poured down Angelica’s face as she shook her head desperately. “Grandpa, it’s not like that-
‘Don’t call me that.” Calvin slammed his cane against the floor. “The recording is clear. Do you think I’m deaf? Or was that not your voice?”
Angelica panicked. “It was my voice, but that’s not what I meant. Victoria kept insulting me. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I said those things in anger.”
Curtis frowned, struggling to accept it. He couldn’t believe the person in that recording was the same gentle, kind Angelica
he knew.
But in the end, he chose to believe her. He thought Victoria must have pushed Angelica too far.
His anger shifted instantly. He glared at Victoria, his eyes burning. “Angelica is right. Who knows what you said to her first to make her snap like that?”

Victoria raised her hand and flipped him off again, silently mouthing, “Idiot”

Calvin let out a cold snort. “Curtis, the truth is right in front of you, and you still can’t tell right from wrong, Victoria is right. You do need a beating. Maybe then your brain will start working”
Victoria put her phone away and said calmly, “Grandpa, it’s not just that she insulted me. She also said Mom and Dad only accepted me for the family fortune.
“If you ask me, she must’ve heard that from Uncle Darell and Aunt Julia.”
Darell’s gaze turned sharp as he stared at her.
“Uncle Darell, don’t look at me like that. You’re scaring me.” Victoria shrank back slightly and leaned into Daisy.
Daisy immediately wrapped an arm around her, her tone turning firm. “It’s already clear. Your adopted daughter provoked Victoria first and said a lot of awful things.”
Hector looked at Angelica, then turned to Darell and Julia, his eyes cold. “Daisy and I truly like Victoria. This has nothing to do with the family fortune.”
Daisy added, her voice steady, “And she said that you brought Victoria back to marry Jackson in her place. Is that true?”
She hadn’t wanted to bring this up in front of Calvin. But now that things had reached this point, she couldn’t let it slide. Even if Victoria agreed to the marriage, it couldn’t happen like this.
Calvin’s expression turned even darker. “Is that true?”
ulia didn’t dare speak. Darell quickly denied it. “No, it’s not like that. We only just found out Victoria is our biological daughter. How could we have planned something like that?”
Daisy didn’t back down. “Then why would Angelica say it?”
Angelica bit her lip, then lowered her head. “It was me. I wanted to stay, but Victoria wouldn’t accept me and wanted me gone. I panicked, so I said that on purpose. I’m the one to blame.”
Hearing this, Calvin turned to Darell and Julia, his voice stern. “You two need to discipline your adopted daughter properly.
gure out the truth.” Next time something like this happens, don’t drag me over here before you ev
Darell nodded quickly. “Yes, I understand. I’ll make sure to deal with Angelica and Curtis properly when we get back.”
ulia felt completely wronged. She hadn’t expected Victoria to be clever enough to record everything.
Victoria finally stepped out of Daisy’s arms and looked at Calvin. “Grandpa, we can’t just let this go. Uncle Darell and Aunt Julia barged into my house demanding answers. They really scared me.”
Calvin nodded. “All four of you, apologize to Victoria. Now,”
Curtis immediately protested, “Grandpa, even if we were wrong, she still hit me. Why should we apologize? I won’t do it.”
Calvin lifted his cane, ready to strike. “You dare talk back to me, huh?”
Julia quickly grabbed his arm, then turned to Curtis. “Curtis, don’t upset your grandfather. Apologize to Victoria right now.”
Victoria crossed her arms and watched them. “Hurry up. Uncle Darell and Aunt Julia, you too.”
Angelica spoke up first, her voice soft. “Victoria, I’m sorry.”
