Just then. Nathan walked in from outside. Seeing Miranda so upset, he sat down and asked, “Grandma, what’s wrong? Why are you so angry?”
Miranda rubbed her temples, trying to ease the tension in her heart “Every time I think about your uncle still being locked up it feels like there’s a weight on my chest. I just can’t shake it off.”
Nathan fried to reassure her. “Grandma, please don’t worry. I’ve already spoken to the folks at the prison–they’ll make sure Uncle is taken care of. He won’t be in any real danger. Plus, we’re working on finding someone to take his place. Once we get that sorted, we can get Uncle out and send him overseas.”
Mirar da’s expression softened a bit after hearing Nathan’s words. She nodded. “That’s good. You have to get your uncle out as soon as possible. No matter what trouble he’s caused, he’s still my son. I can’t let him suffer in there.”
Alright, Nathan replied, glancing at the frail Sirena. “Your younger son will be back from studying overseas soon. We shouldn’t let him see his mother in this state.”
At those words, Sirena felt a flicker of hope.
That’s right, my son will be home soon!‘ she thought.
Even if her younger son wasn’t as impressive as Nathan, he was still a true Clark by blood.
Miranda wouldn’t really go so far as to kill her–not with that connection.
Miranda let out a curt “Mm,” then fixed Sirena with a blank stare. “Did you hear that? Nathan spoke up for you. For his sake, you don’t have to kneel in the cathedral anymore.”
Sirena’s eyes finally showed a glimmer of hope.
Miranda continued, “But you need to focus on getting your health back. If my grandson ever finds out I’ve been punishing you, you know what kind of consequences that would bring.”
Sirena shuddered and quickly said, “I know, Mom. I promise I won’t say a word to my son. Please, don’t worry.”
Miranda’s face showed a hint of impatience as she waved her hand, as if shooing away a pesky fly. “Alright, stop hanging around here. Go back to your room. I’ll have the kitchen send some food up to you. Just stay in your room and don’t go anywhere.”
Sirena felt like she’d just dodged a bullet. She scrambled up from the floor, so fast she almost tripped and went down again.
After barely steadying herself, she didn’t stick around for another second. She spun around and rushed upstairs, wobbling as she made her way to her room.
Not long after Sirena left, Nathan’s phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID–it was his assistant.
Nathan picked up, and his assistant’s voice came through. “Boss, I just got word. Jackson has settled Stephen in the most secure compound in Benwig City.”
Nathan instantly understood.
Just as I thought, he mused.
There was no doubt about it–Jackson was going to such lengths for Stephen, so Stephen had to be his biological brother.

“Got it Nathan replied.
Boss, should we try to snatch Stephen the assistant asked
Jackson already got to Stephen first Trying to grab him right under Jackson’s nose?
That was just wishful thinking
But
Thinking back to how Xavier once tried to use him as a weapon, Nathan said, “Leak the news that Stephen is Jackson’s real brother to Felix and Xavier. They’ll make their move.”
There wasn’t much time left before Gerry officially named the Thornton family’s heir. Last time, Xavier tried to use Cassian as leverage to push Jackson into going to Afriska and take him out, but he failed:
Now that Nathan thought about it, Jackson probably suspected back then that Cassian wasn’t his real brother, so Xavier’s plot was doomed from the start. He thought.
If Felix and Xavier don’t act soon, they’re just waiting to get kicked out.‘
Sure, their families still hold some of the Thornton family’s assets, but their shares are small–they only have management rights. Once Jackson takes over and Gerry passes away, Jackson will definitely take back all the management rights.
Understood,” the assistant replied.
ust as Nathan hung up, the butler walked in. “Old Mrs. Clark, Mr. Clark, Darell Binder is at the door. He says he wants to see Sirena.”
See Sirena?” Miranda’s brows knitted as she let out a cold snort. “Sirena’s been married into the Clark family for years, and Darell never once bothered to visit his younger sister. Now he suddenly wants to see her?”
A cold smirk played at Nathan’s lips. “He doesn’t really want to see Sirena–he wants to see us. Looks like Victoria’s got him cornered, and now he’s looking for a lifeline by coming to us.”
Miranda’s face grew even darker. She said coldly, “If he wants the Clark family to deal with Victoria, he’d better have something worth our while. Let Darell in. I want to hear what he has to say.”
Not long after, the butler brought Darell into the hall.
Darell scanned the room, noticing only Nathan and Miranda–Sirena was nowhere to be seen. After a quick greeting, he deliberately asked, “Mrs. Clark, Nathan, where’s Sirena?”
Miranda narrowed her eyes. “Cut it out with the ‘sister‘ talk. Are you really here because you care about Sirena? Just get to the point–what do you want from us?”
Darell dropped all pretenses. “Since you put it that way, Mrs. Clark, I’ll cut to the chase–I want you to help me get rid of my
wife‘
Even Miranda, whose own hands weren’t exactly clean and who’d weathered plenty of storms, couldn’t hide her shock–her face actually changed at Darell’s words.
Her hand, which had been turning her prayer beads, froze mid–motion. She stared at him in disbeliet “Darell, do you have any idea what you’re asking?”
Darell replied calmly. “I know what I’m asking. But if I want my son to truly turn against Victoria, he needs to hate her That’s why I’m here–I want you to send someone to kill my wife, and then frame Victoria for it.”

Miranda shot back. Why don’t you just do it yourself?”
Darell answered honestly. With my own connections, if I tried to hire someone, my older brother and his people would trace it back to me in no time. But the Clark family is different–you’ve got networks everywhere, even overseas For you. making someone disappear without leaving a trace shouldn’t be a problem.”
Miranda stared him down, her gaze icy. “Darell, are you really ruthless enough to throw your own wife to the wolves?”
Darell paused, then spoke quietly. “I’ve got nothing left. There’s nothing I can’t give up now. If we can never return to the Binder family and lose everything, then for my wife, there’s nothing left worth living for. If her death lets my sons reclaim their place in the Binder family, she’d probably be grateful–even from the grave.”
Nathan, who had been quietly listening, let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Oh, so she’d be happy in the afterlife? That’s a pretty self–righteous speech. If you’re so eager for sacrifice, why not offer up your own life to enlighten your sons, instead of sending your wife to her death?”
Darell replied, sounding perfectly logical. “It’s not that I’m afraid to die. But my wife has always lived a sheltered, pampered life–she’s never had to do anything for herself. Honestly, she’s no match for Victoria.”
“Everything I’m doing is so my two sons can return to the Binder family and reclaim what belongs to us.” Darell felt perfectly justified in his actions.
Nathan let out a cold laugh.
Looks like Darell’s got me beat when it comes to being ruthless,‘ Nathan thought.
What can you offer the Clark family? Give me one good reason why we should even bother helping you,” Nathan said with a cold edge.
