to live.
Now that someone was telling him Chloe’s car crash wasn’t an accident, there was no way he was going to let it go wit finding out the truth.
Stephen was suspicious too, but he knew the Thornton family was complicated, so he tried to stay calm.
He said, “Gary, let’s wait until Jackson gets here and talk it over with him, okay?”
But Gary couldn’t wait a second longer. He grabbed his phone, dialed the number from the note, and put it on speakerphone.
The call connected almost instantly.
A man’s voice, a little strange, came on the line. “Hello, I knew you’d end up calling me.
“Stephen, you’re Jackson’s real brother, aren’t you?
“And Gary, you were the one who rescued Cassian when Donald shipped him off, right?”
Gary couldn’t talk, so he let out a few muffled sounds.
Too bad that the person on the other end couldn’t understand him or see his gestures.
Seeing Gary struggle, Stephen let out a sigh and asked, “Who are you?”
The guy on the other end answered, “Does it matter who I am? I want to let you know it. Don’t tell me you actually belie Chloe died in an accident.
And don’t tell me you really think that, twenty–two years ago, Chloe’s son was sent away because Donald bribed some fortune–teller to claim Cassian would bring bad luck to the Thornton family.”
Stephen frowned. “Isn’t that what happened? Didn’t Donald want his bastard son to replace me in the Thonion Tarinax
The guy on the other end scoffed, “No way. Donald was a pawn. The one really pulling the strings was the boss in Thornton family.
Come on, do you really think Donald’s petty schemes could fool your grandpa, Gerry? That he’d wild his wway and Chloe happened to die in a car crash right then?”
