Chapter 385
Ollie threw a glance at Pierre before wheeling Jackson into the hall.
Jackson had a faint smirk on his lips. “If my legs were working like before, would you still dare to talk to me this way?”
Pierre straightened up, refusing to back down. “Why not?”
But his words sounded hollow, and he clearly was not as confident as he pretended.
Back when Jackson was in his prime and highly regarded, Pierre never had the guts to throw shade at him like this
If Jackson ever fully took over the Thornton family, even the new energy business under Ryan and Felix’s management might no longer remain in their control.
But after Jackson’s legs were ruined, Pierre figured Jackson was done for, and Felix would finally have a shot at the prized heir spot.
Jackson seemed to see right through Pierre. His smile turned even more playful as he teased, “Oh? Is that so? Well, I’ll look forward to it. When my legs are back to normal next month, let’s see if you can still act tough.”
Felix studied Jackson’s face, realizing Jackson was not joking. He thought, Jackson’s serious. I need to figure something out. fast. If he’s not bluffing, I’m running out of time.
If Jackson really gets back on his feet, there’s no way Grandpa will let anyone else take the heir spot.
Pierre quickly changed the subject. “Grandpa, I heard Jackson gave Victoria a post–nuptial agreement at her birthday party last night. If he ever betrays her, he’ll walk away with nothing. Are you really okay with that?
“If Jackson becomes the heir to the Thornton family, and Victoria plays her cards right, the entire Thornton family fortune could end up in her hands! The Thornton family would be taken over!”
Gerry sipped his coffee in silence.
Felix said, “Pierre, don’t be so dramatic. Ms. Binder and Jackson are so in love. There’s no way she’d do something like that. You’re overthinking it.”
Pierre shot back, “Love? What love? Victoria is a ruthless woman who only cares about money and interests. There’s no such thing as love in her eyes.
“I think the reason she agreed to marry Jackson despite his disabled legs and even agreed to treat him was so he could become the heir, after which she would find a chance to take over our family’s assets!”
“Shut up, stop overanalyzing. If you can think of it, don’t you think Jackson and Grandpa would have already thought of it? Felix said, putting on his best fake–serious face.
Jackson chuckled. “Is that so? I think you two think that Grandpa is a fool, putting on this little act together. Do you think he doesn’t see right through you?”
Felix was rendered speechless.
Pierre quickly retorted, “We do not think of Grandpa as a fool! Jackson, stop spouting nonsense!”
Gerry slammed his cup down. “Enough. I’ve already said it. The three–month deadline still stands. It hasn’t expired yet. It you want to be the heir, let your abilities speak for themselves.

“Don’t bother trying to sway me with flattery. The annual family meeting is at the end of next month Present the performance results of your respective companies so your elders can see what you’re really made of
Pierre clamped his mouth shut, clearly unhappy.
Felix grinned. ‘Honestly, we’re here today to congratulate Jackson. The Clark family’s Midnight Blue crisis hut them hard
“All their businesses took a hit, and even Miranda had to step up and take the fall herself. That’s a real win for our family.
“So Pierre was off earlier. Ms. Binder isn’t scheming against Jackson. In fact, Jackson’s the one who’s really scoring big by marrying her
Jackson chuckled. “Hear that, Pierre? Maybe you should take a few lessons from your brother on how to work your words”
Felix ignored Jackson’s teasing and continued, “I heard Cassian’s having a rough time in prison. He keeps asking to see you and Uncle Donald
“By the way. Uncle Donald has been missing for ages. Have you found him yet?”
Pierre chimed in, surprised, “Jackson, even if Uncle Donald did you wrong, he’s still your father. You would not really go se far as to hurt him, would you?”
Jackson shot back, “Felix, aren’t you just the pot calling the kettle black? After my dad vanished from the sanatorium. I went straight to Xavier and confronted him.
“He flat–out admitted he was behind the kidnapping and said you were the mastermind. Honestly, I have no clue what you two are scheming
Felix’s expression changed ever so slightly.
He knew Jackson was making it up, but he was still stunned by how direct Jackson was being
Jackson never used to talk like this. This seems like something Victoria, that crazy woman, would pull, Felix thought.
He gave Jackson a suspicious look. “Really? Did Xavier actually say that, or are you just spinning tales, Jackson?”
Jackson retorted, “If you don’t buy it, go ask Xavier yourself. You guys have been secretly in touch with him lately anyway
Felix was at a loss for words.
Jackson added, “Whatever you two are scheming, just remember this: no matter what, my dad’s still my dad, and he’s part of the Thornton family.
“Don’t do anything reckless that could get him killed. If that happens, you’ll have hell to pay.”
Felix’s smile disappeared. “Jackson, quit trying to set me up. Why would I ask Xavier about something I never did:
Jackson merely let out a mocking laugh. He did not say anything else.
Felix also stopped talking
After a while, Jackson finally said, “So, you two brothers came here just to waste time on all this pointless talk?
Pierre could not hold it in anymore. “We’re here to see Grandpa and to make sure he knows that if he lets you manage family business, he’d better be careful or outsiders could end up taking everything from us!”
