Nathan’s brows knitted tightly as he heard the butler’s words. “What’s going on? Spit it out!”
The butler hurried to explain, “After Mr. Geoffrey came to visit you that day, he said he wanted to help you out. I tried to talk him out of it, telling him not to act rashly and to wait until you recovered.
“But he wouldn’t listen, and he stormed off in a huff. I was worried he might do something reckless, so I sent someone to follow him, just in case.”
Nathan’s face grew even darker. He barked, “If someone was following him, then how did Geoffrey end up missing?”
The butler looked troubled. “I think he must’ve noticed the people I sent, so he shook them off pretty quickly. I was worried about him, but I didn’t dare go to the Binder family to look for him.
“After all, you were still recovering and needed to focus on your recovery. I really didn’t want to disturb
you…
Nathan’s anger flared up instantly. He snapped, “You knew he might be in danger, and you’re only telling me now, after he’s been missing for days? If anything happens to Geoffrey, I swear you’ll pay for it!”
With that, Nathan fought through the pain and forced himself upright in bed. His movements were stiff and difficult, but his gaze was resolute.
The butler hurried over to steady Nathan. “Mr. Clark, this is all my fault. I’ll take you to the Binder family right away to find him!”

Victoria was completely focused on treating Jackson when a sharp ringtone suddenly shattered the quiet in the room. Jackson reached for his phone and answered the call.
Ollie’s voice came through the phone. “Mr. Thornton, Xavier is here to see you. He’s waiting downstairs.”
Jackson paused for a moment, then said, “Tell him to wait half an hour before coming up.”
“Got it, Mr. Thornton,” Ollie replied.
After Jackson hung up, Victoria didn’t even look up. “Looks like things are pretty urgent; Xavier actually showed up at HQ.”
Jackson smiled. “Yeah, I guess so.”
Half an hour later; the doorbell rang, and Jackson hit the remote to buzz them in. Ollie brought Xavier inside.
As soon as Xavier saw Jackson, his face darkened with fury. He stormed in, yelling, “Jackson, explain yourself! How did the Afriska shipment get messed up? The cops even found contraband! Was this your doing?”
Jackson’s calm eyes darkened a bit, but he kept his cool. He replied, “Contraband? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Xavier got even angrier, raising his voice, “Don’t play dumb with me! Because of that contraband, our shipment got seized, and we’ve suffered huge losses! Who else would pull something like this but you?”
Jackson stayed calm and reasoned, “You have no proof. Why would I do something like that? What

Jackson remained calm. “If contraband was found in the shipment, shouldn’t your first step be to check if your people are the problem?
“Maybe they took money they shouldn’t have, and that’s what caused all this. Instead of wasting your time on me, you should be looking into your own team.”
Xavier’s anger only grew at Jackson’s cool attitude. He shouted, “Of course I’ll look into this thoroughly, but you’d better hope it doesn’t trace back to you. Otherwise, you’ll have to answer to Grandpa!” With that, Xavier stormed out of the room.
Only after Xavier’s figure disappeared from the doorway did Victoria step out from the side room. She walked over to Jackson and asked, “What’s your take on Xavier’s accusation?”
Jackson paused for a moment, then said, “Xavier and his dad have been working Afriska for years, and their crew is all veterans. Normally, they wouldn’t mess up this badly.”
Victoria nodded thoughtfully, then said, “So, you think it’s likely that Steven is pulling strings behind the scenes?”
Jackson was silent for a moment, then finally said, “Yeah.”
Victoria suddenly fixed Jackson with a serious stare, as if trying to read his mind.
She asked solemnly, “Jack, did you already figure that if Steven wanted to send a strong warning to the Thornton family, the most likely place he’d strike would be the Afriska non-ferrous metals business?”
Jackson paused for a moment, then replied slowly, “Yeah, I did consider that possibility. After all, the other Thornton family businesses, like the new energy sector, have my aunt backing them up, so Steven probably wouldn’t dare mess with that.
“And the finance side I’m in charge of isn’t easy to tamper with either. Compared to those, the easiest way would be to bribe someone in Afriska and pull some tricks during the shipping process.”
Victoria continued, “So, you’re actually planning to use this incident to have Steven help you get rid of Xavier, your biggest headache?”
Jackson replied, “You could say that. If things go as planned, I’ll have a legitimate excuse to weaken Xavier and his father’s control over the Afriska business.
“But if I’m not careful, it won’t just be them who get caught up in this; there’s a real chance the whole Thornton family could be dragged into it.”
“So, do
you have a plan?” Victoria asked.
Jackson replied, “Yeah, I’ve got something up my sleeve. But like I said, Xavier and his dad have been running this show for years; they know the ropes and probably saw this coming. They handle it, no problem.
“But no matter if I did it or not, they’re gonna rat me out to Grandpa. If it were me, my shot at being heir is toast. If it wasn’t. they’ll just throw you under the bus instead.”
Victoria said, “Looks like we’re facing a crisis like never before.”
Jackson smiled. “Don’t sweat it. As I said, the best way to deal with a guy like Steven is to let his rivals do the dirty work. Once he goes down, the Clark family is history. That’s a win for both the Binder and Thornton families.”
Victoria raised an eyebrow. “Did you find the right guy?”
Jackson wheeled himself over to the massive floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the busy street below.
“Yeah, I did. He’ll be heading up an internal audit as part of the inspection team next April, for six weeks. If we gather enough evidence over the next four months, we can bring Steve crashing down.”

Four months is plenty of time to strip Steven bare; he won’t have a single secret left. Victoria walked over and stood beside Jackson. “Alright, I’ll dig up the dirt, you blow the whistle.
