“What are you lost in thought for? Aren’t we heading out yet?” Curtis’s arrogant voice snapped Oliver out of his thoughts.

Angelica gave Oliver a sweet smile. “Oliver, my brother Simon is here too. Could you drive ahead and lead the way?”

Oliver snapped back to reality and noticed another Porsche parked next to the Ferrari. He pushed his thoughts aside, shot a glance at Curtis in the driver’s seat, and didn’t bother to humor him.

Instead, he replied coolly, “Ms. Binder already knows the address. It’s in Mimiburg. Don’t tell me your luxury ride doesn’t even have navigation?”

Angelica was taken aback.

Curtis was even more surprised that Oliver would actually mock him.

Oliver continued, “If you don’t even know how to get to Mimiburg, then just call off the meeting with Viara. It’s not like I’m the one begging you to go.”

With that, he rolled up his window and drove off, not bothering to see how Angelica and Curtis

reacted.

Once Oliver’s car was gone, Curtis finally snapped out of it. “Seriously? What was he even trying to

say?”

Angelica felt uneasy. She never expected Oliver, the guy who always acted like a total simp for her, to actually snap at her.

Simon, sitting in the back of the Porsche, rolled down his window and called out, “Angelica, your friend’s car is already gone. Why aren’t you leaving yet?”

Angelica quickly replied, “Simon, you go ahead.”

Simon, eager to meet Viara, nodded and told the driver to follow Oliver’s car.

Curtis thought it over and could only come up with one reason. “It’s gotta be the Ferrari. Broke guys always get touchy about stuff like this. Seriously, is he really friends with Viara, or is he just bluffing?”

Angelica replied, “Curtis, he really is a popular author on the same site as Viara. He wouldn’t lie to me. Let’s just head over first.”

“Fine.” Curtis grumbled, punched Mimiburg into the GPS, and floored it, quickly leaving Oliver’s car in the dust.

Victoria’s number, wanting to confirm what his dad had told him.

Victoria was just about to head to the garage to get her car and leave for the meeting when she saw Oliver’s call. She picked up.

“Oliver, what’s up?” she said.

“My dad just called me. He said you’re in Benwig City because the Binder family brought you back as their real heiress to take the place of the fake heiress and marry Jackson?” Oliver asked.

“Yeah, what’s up?” Victoria replied.

There was a brief pause on the other end. “Sorry, I didn’t know. The friend who wanted me to arrange this meeting is Angelica, the fake heiress the Binder family wants you to replace, right?”

‘So that’s what it was about.’ Victoria just smiled, not bothered at all. “It’s fine. You didn’t know the situation. I only agreed to meet up. It’s not like I’m selling my rights or anything

Oliver chuckled. “Yeah, that’s true.”

Victoria joked, “I never thought it’d be such a coincidence that your friend would be Angelica How did you two meet?”

Ryan said with a hint of embarrassment, “There was this campus event in Benwig City for web novel authors, and I was invited. Angelica came up to me with my book, asked for my autograph, and said she was a fan.

“She was really pretty, totally my type, so I asked if we could add each other on Facebook, and she said yes. After that, we’d chat from time to time, and I’d check out her updates.

“She always seemed like someone who loved life, was super positive, and had all kinds of talents. Who would’ve thought that some people are just all show on the surface.”

Victoria raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

“Maybe it’s because I’m driving a 30–thousand–dollar car and her brother looked down on me for it. And she didn’t even bother to defend me,” Oliver said.

“Don’t let it get to you. There are plenty of good women out there,” Victoria said.

“I’m not really upset, just feel like I totally misjudged her, and almost let you down. I’m pretty annoyed about it. My dad specifically told me to look out for you, so if anyone from the Binder family gives you trouble, just tell me. I won’t just sit back and do nothing,” Oliver said.

“Sure thing, but you know nobody can really mess with me,” Victoria replied.

“Yeah, if anyone actually tried, and my dad found out, the whole city would be turned upside down.

Alright, see you at Mimiburg soon,” Oliver said.

“Alright,” Victoria replied.

After hanging up with Oliver, Victoria found herself amused once again.

She thought, ‘Looks like the more Angelica–Benwig City’s proud little darling–tries to reach for the top, the more fate just refuses to let her.

The Cooke family might not be as powerful as the Thornton family, but they were still a big deal in Benwig City. For the Binder family, landing a marriage with them would definitely be moving up in

the world.

There were three distinct tiers of the elite families in Benwig City.

The top tier included the century–old Thornton family, the Cooke family with their scientific research background and long–standing government partnerships, and the Fairbank family who were among the first to ride the internet wave.

It also included the Clark family–thanks to her aunt Sirena’s marriage–and a handful of big shots from Mullinran Village with deep political connections.

Second–tier families were ones like the Binder family, the Vaughn family–Julia’s birth family, and the Fisher family, Victoria’s gorgeous new stepmom’s side.

The third tier were mostly those up–and–coming clans that sprang up in Benwig City over the past few years, cashing in on new industries like clean energy. Their roots weren’t all that deep yet, but they had managed to carve out a spot for themselves.

But now, after giving up Jackson, the top dog of the Thornton family, Angelica was about to let another secret big shot slip through her fingers: Oliver.

From now on, her chances to move up in the world were drying up fast.

Angelica and Curtis get to Mimiburg first. They stepped out of the car and waited for Simon and

Oliver to arrive.

Suddenly, Angelica spotted Jackson at the entrance of Mimiburg, and her eyes instantly brightened.

“Curtis, isn’t that Jackson? Let’s go say hi,” she said eagerly.

But Curtis shook his head. “Forget it. You and Jackson aren’t engaged anymore, and at the welcome banquet, he was clearly favoring Victoria.”

“It’s fine.” Angelica brushed it off and walked right over, leaving Curtis no choice but to tag along behind her.

“How’s your leg, Jackson?” Angelica quickly changed the subject.

Jackson ran his fingers over his thigh. “It’s getting better. Victoria’s been treating me lately. She says she can cure my leg, in three months.”

Angelica paused, then asked tentatively, “Victoria said she can actually cure your leg?”

Jackson nodded, his dark eyes flashing with a hint of mockery. “Yeah. What, you’re not happy for me?”
