Once again, I found myself ensconced in the familiar confines of my office, a tempest of thoughts swirling in my mind, all stemming from the events of the previous night. The memory replayed like a cherished yet forbidden film, vivid and undeniable.

Amelia had kissed me. Yes, she had been lost in slumber, and yes, I would carry the weight of this secret to my grave, pretending it had never happened. But deep down, I knew the truth, a truth that felt like a precious gem hidden in the depths of my heart, one that only I was privy to.

If she had been awake, the likelihood of her slapping me instead of kissing me would have been far greater. Yet, in her sleep, she had acted without hesitation, as if her subconscious had whispered to her the feelings she dared not acknowledge when conscious. I clung to the hope that her dreams held a mirror to her true emotions. After all, it was unlikely one would kiss someone they loathed, even in a dream state.

If only I could find a way to dismantle the walls she had built around her heart, to show her that the issues between us were not insurmountable, no matter how tangled they seemed. She was my mate, my other half, and I yearned for this bond to flourish. The absence of her presence by my side felt like a gaping void, an ache that throbbed in my chest.

Her kiss lingered in my mind like the sweetest of dreams, intoxicating and haunting all at once.

Suddenly, the shrill ring of the phone on my desk shattered my reverie, pulling me back to the harsh reality of my responsibilities. I cursed softly under my breath, annoyed that my daydreams had been so rudely interrupted. Any moment spent imagining Amelia’s kiss was a moment well spent, but the pressing matters of the pack awaited no man, least of all me.

With a reluctant sigh, I reached for the phone, bringing it to my ear. “Hello?” I answered, trying to mask the irritation in my voice.
