**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 130**
**CONTENT: Chapter 130**
**Damien’s POV**
A tempest of fury clawed at my insides, a relentless beast that demanded release. Though I maintained a stoic exterior, my wolf roared in protest within the confines of my mind, echoing my inner turmoil.
What gnawed at me the most was the suffocating reality that I had nowhere to channel this rage. We were not in the midst of a war; this conference was intended to be a sanctuary of neutrality. I couldn’t even afford the luxury of confronting Jake without it casting a shadow over both our packs, and consequently, on Amelia, the very reason for this gathering.
Perhaps Amelia had chosen to be with Jake tonight out of her own desire, but a nagging doubt lingered—what if she had gravitated toward him because she felt alienated by me and my pack?
It was painfully evident that she had caught wind of the malicious rumors Claire had spread, insinuating that Claire was my new Luna. The thought of Amelia believing such lies twisted my insides further.
When she had turned cold, shutting me out completely, I had been left in the dark regarding her feelings. Had the rumors hurt her? The mere thought sent a fresh wave of anger surging through me.
This was all Claire’s doing.
I couldn’t let her slip away unscathed.
After witnessing Jake saunter away with my wife, my mate, I had turned on my heel, fury propelling me through the throngs of people, my eyes scanning for Claire. But she was nowhere to be found.
Others approached, attempting to engage me in conversation, but I brushed them aside. I was on a singular mission now: to confront Claire and demand she rectify this situation, even if it meant she had to face Amelia and declare the rumors false herself.
Time ticked by slowly, but eventually, I spotted Claire standing on the balcony, her gaze lost in the distance, overlooking the majestic mountains. Despite the space heaters surrounding her, the chill in the air was palpable, a reminder of the snow-capped peaks looming nearby.
I could see her shiver slightly as she pulled her light jacket tighter around herself. As soon as she sensed my presence, she turned to face me, her expression a mix of surprise and apprehension.
“Where’s Amelia?” she inquired, her voice steady but laced with an undercurrent of tension.
“Your lies have reached her ears,” I replied, my voice gravelly with barely concealed rage. “You will fix this.”
“How do you expect me to do that?” Claire challenged, her eyes narrowing. “Amelia has never been fond of me. If I tell her that I’m not your Luna yet, she will only think I’m trying to deceive her.”
I couldn’t help but think that perhaps her celebration was already marred, especially with Jake at her side.
Claire stole another glance at me, her expression contemplative. “Alpha, would it be too much to ask if we could simply return home? Our presence here is likely distressing for Amelia, and her closeness with Alpha Jake appears to be troubling you. I see no advantage in prolonging our stay.”
I hesitated, reluctant to concede to Claire on any front at this moment. But the thought of remaining at this conference even a moment longer filled me with dread.
If I had to witness Jake wrap a possessive arm around Amelia just once more…
I doubted my ability to keep my composure intact.
Yet, perhaps if I could find Amelia alone, away from Claire’s influence…
“I won’t go back without you,” she insisted, her tone firm.
“I am commanding you to,” I replied, my voice leaving no room for argument.
