**TITLE: Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 142**
**CONTENT: Chapter 142**
**Jake’s POV**
My heart raced as I struggled to trust my own perception. With a swift sidestep, I maneuvered past my father, my instincts guiding me to follow the fleeting silhouette of Sienna as it flitted toward the main courtyard. Confusion etched on his face, Martin trailed closely behind me, his footsteps echoing the turmoil inside me. The expansive courtyard, dominated by the grand fountain at its center, seemed to hold its breath as we stepped into its vastness. It was there, amidst the shadows cast by a towering marble pillar, that we finally laid eyes on her.
“Sienna?” Martin’s voice broke the heavy silence, a hesitant question that hung in the air like a fragile thread.
The moment I heard her name slip from his lips, a wave of relief washed over me. For a fleeting second, I had feared I was losing my grip on reality, convinced that my sister could not possibly be here, not in a place that felt so foreign to our family.
But there she stood, as if she had seamlessly woven herself into the fabric of this extravagant world. Dressed casually yet elegantly, she cradled a drink in her hand, exuding an air of comfort that was unsettling. Just how long had she been ensconced in this lifestyle while we diligently sent checks to the university for her education, her housing, and her meals?
My father took the lead, closing the distance between us and Sienna with measured steps, and I followed closely, my heart pounding in my chest.
As soon as Sienna caught sight of our approach, she turned slowly, her expression a mixture of surprise and disdain. Her narrowed eyes and downturned frown told us everything we needed to know about her feelings.
“What on earth are you doing here, Sienna?” Martin asked, his voice laced with a blend of concern and frustration.
“I was invited,” she replied coolly, her tone dismissive. “Uncle has always had a soft spot for me. After you sent me away, I reached out to him. He was more than happy to take me in.”
A flicker of doubt crossed my mind. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Sienna had spun a web of half-truths for Uncle Benedict, carefully omitting the darker details of her near-exile. Depending on how long she had been here, it was entirely possible that she had been whispering her venomous lies not just about us, but also about Amelia.
It suddenly made sense why the Alpha King had brushed us off so easily earlier. Sienna had probably filled his ears with all sorts of fabrications!
“What have you been telling Benedict about us?” I demanded, my voice rising with indignation. “And what about Amelia?”
“Only the truth,” she snapped back, her eyes flashing with defiance. “I’ve told him that you all have been bewitched by Damien’s unworthy wife. That this human has no respect for our werewolf hierarchy and has turned you all against me.”
“You’ve made your own despicable choices,” I reminded her, my frustration bubbling over. “Amelia had nothing to do with it.”
“I cannot reason with you,” Sienna shot back, her voice dripping with contempt. “She has clouded your judgment, and you are incapable of seeing reason anymore. It’s truly sad. Uncle thinks so too.”
