Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 211

Chapter 211

Jake’s POV

What happened at the funeral was too near a miss. Damien very nearly found Amelia, and had been close enough for her to him say her name. I still didn’t understand how that could have been. I didn’t even hear him say it. But the mating bond was a strange thing. Maybe she felt it more than heard it.

None of this would have happened if Damien hadn’t scented Amelia. I knew her wolf was being careful, but not careful enough, it seemed.

Hoping to speak to Amelia’s wolf again, the next morning I pushed for Amelia to get checked out at the hospital again.

It was between appointments for her, she didn’t have anything scheduled, but when I played up my worry for her, she agreed.

I hated manipulating her in this way, but it was the only reliable way I could think of to speak to Serena without Amelia’s knowledge.

Eve seemed surprised to find Amelia and me in her examination room. “Is something wrong?” she asked.

Amelia looked at me and in my shame, I lowered my head as I made my request. “I think Annette needs another thorough examination. I’m sure you will want to put her under again for it.””

When I glanced up, I saw Eve’s critical look. She wasn’t happy with some of the decisions I’d made regarding Amelia and had been vocal about it. But she was still living in my pack now, and I was still Alpha. She had no choice but to listen to me.

With a sigh, she said, “Yes, we can do that.” She grabbed the syringe and approached Amelia.

Amelia, who so fully trusted us both, simply closed her eyes.

When the medicine was administered, Eve and I waited for it to take effect. With Amelia’s eyes closed, Eve openly glared at me. She checked Amelia’s vitals. When she seemed satisfied that Amelia was really under, she said, “We can’t just do this whenever you want. It is dangerous for anyone to be repeatedly forced unconscious.”

“I wouldn’t have you do with without cause,” I said. “I need to speak with Serena.”

“There is no guarantee her wolf will want to speak with you again,” Eve said.

“I have to try,” I told her.

She lightly shook her head as she backed away. I stepped closer to Amelia’s unconscious body.

I waited a moment for the wolf to reveal herself, but when she didn’t, I called for her. “Serena. It’s Alpha Jake. I need to speak with you.”

Another moment passed where nothing happened.

Eve crossed her arms.

“Serena, please. It’s important.”

Finally, Amelia blinked her eyes open. With the way they glowed and the intensity of that stare, I knew I wasn’t speaking with Amelia now, but with Serena at last.

She glanced over at me. “You called for me.”

“Damien scented you,” I said. “I thought we talked about keeping Amelia hidden from him. That means that you have to keep your scent hidden, no matter what.”

Serena frowned. “I have been concerned about the baby. I have not seen the baby in some time… I stretched myself out to try to sense her.”

Was that what happened? Why she left herself open for Damien to detect? Why she was so easily found, when she had been reaching directly to the baby, who was in the care of Damien himself?

“The baby is with Damien now,” I said. “My family and I discussed it and thought that would be what Amelia would want, given the present circumstances.”

Serena looked me straight in the eye, hers unblinking. “She would want to keep her baby.”

It was an accusation, something I was guilty of. But this time I held her gaze full on, not looking away even as the shame struck through me. I made this decision and I would stand by it.

“But, if that cannot be done, yes, she would want Damien to raise the child. Our mate will protect her.”

“Good,” I said. “So you will do more now to shield yourself and your scent? We can’t have any more slip-ups like this. It was far too dangerous.”

“Yes,” Serena said. “With the baby safe, I will be able to more fully focus on keeping myself hidden.”

“And your scent,” I said. “You can’t let Damien detect you, no matter what.”

Serena’s expression hardened. “Very well. Though you should know that to do so for extended periods of time could harm Amelia’s wolf abilities in the future.”

“It’s a necessary risk,” I said quickly.

“Alpha,” Eve said. “Perhaps we should speak about this.”

There was no need. Amelia was my sister, and I was Alpha. I knew what was best for her at least enough to know that Damien wasn’t it.

“We have to keep her hidden from Damien,” I said. “It’s the only way she can truly start over.”

Eve huffed in frustration but didn’t verbally argue.

Serena continued to look at me. For a moment, I worried my biggest opposition might have been from her. But instead, she said, “As I can sense the hurts of Amelia’s past, I will agree. I have said enough.”

With that, she closed her eyes and rested back on the bed.

“You are trifling with the Moon Goddess’s will now,” Eve said. “May she have mercy on you.’

I hoped for the same, but I didn’t regret. I would do whatever was necessary to protect my sister.

Damien’s POV

I had alerted my staff at my estate of the baby’s arrival, as well as asked my interim Beta to alert the council and a few others, to have them draw up paperwork to protect Amy, as well as declare her as my heir.
