Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 220

Chapter 220

Claire pressed her lips hard together. She softened her gaze before looking back at Stacy.

“No matter,” she said. “When you get older, you will see the truth for yourself.”

“Amelia is my mommy,” Stacy said stubbornly.

Claire frowned.

“Stacy,” I said, calling my daughter back to me. “Why don’t you and Amy go into the kitchen and see what that smell is.” I could already tell Claire’s chef was making cookies.

Stacy looked relieved as she walked back towards me. Amy released my hand, took her sisters instead, and together they walked down the hallway to the kitchen.

This wasn’t the first time I had sent them away so I could speak privately to Claire, so they already knew this house fairly well. Far better than I wanted them to.

The minute the kids were out of earshot, I said, “We’ve talked about this. Many times.”

“We have, and you never listen,” Claire said.

Without the children nearby we both dropped our facades and openly glared at each other.

“I need my daughter’s love,” Claire said. “That is what heals me.’

“The Healers said that her closeness is effective enough,” I countered. “She doesn’t have to love you. And I can’t force her to, even if that was the case.”

“Not even to save a life?”

“No,” I said. “Especially when it’s the life of a murderer.”

Amelia’s POV

Maybe I should have left well enough alone. But after finding the computer had Damien locked, the only place I thought I might be able to find answers, would be to find that man and the kids again.

Maybe they could explain to me why I felt the way that I did. Maybe they knew me from before my amnesia.

I didn’t think they were kidnappers, despite what Jake thought.

So I waited until later in the day, for the security to get lax as one shift of enforcers grew tired, waiting for the next shift to relieve them. Then, I crawled out my bedroom window and sneaked out.

I went due south, following the same route through the forest I had taken when I had left that date with Ian and saw my fantasy man at a distance.

I’d been hoping, going to the same place at the same time of day that I would meet them again. Perhaps this walk had been part of their routine.

I hoped, and I prayed to the Moon Goddess, so desperately wanting answers.

But, when I arrived at the spot I had seen them last, the sidewalk was empty.

I waited, half-hidden behind a tree. A car drove by, but after five full minutes, that was all that happened.

The crunch of the foliage behind me, told me I wasn’t alone. Without looking, I already knew I’d been caught, but

not by an enemy.

“Annette, you shouldn’t be out here,” Cara said.

Cara had been my shadow for the past six years, and she could be diligent if she was on duty, which seemed nearly all the time, unless, like when I was out with lan, someone else was entrusted to my car.

I imagined, after my disappearance last time, Jake had told Cara not to let me out of her sight again.
