Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 227

Chapter 227

Damien’s POV

The day of the musical, the girls’ nanny brought them to the office so that we could leave straight after I finished work. When they arrived, I was immediately enchanted.

The girls had on some beautiful dresses, Amy in sparkling purple and Stacy in the same dress, but blue. The nanny had pulled their hair into curly up-dos, with some ringlets hanging down that bounced as they walked around, with they did a lot, running in circles around my desk, likely wanting to see their dresses sashay back and forth. They were absolutely adorable, distracting me from my remaining work.

“Alpha?” Keegan asked from the doorway to my office. When the girls saw him, they rushed to him for a hug. They each held an opposite side of him. “Uh, hello girls.” He awkwardly patted their backs. Looking back up at me, he asked, “Can I expect that order before you leave, Sir?”

Before the girls came into my life, I would have dropped anything and everything to put work – and the pack – first. While I knew this lead my pack to success, and to me being a good Alpha, I had lost so much because of it, as well.

Amelia, for one.

If I had cared more about her, put her first, then maybe I could have seen how I was hurting her before it was too late. Maybe she would even still be with me now.

“Not tonight, Keegan,” I told him. “I believe that I’m done for the day.”

My daughters were my entire world now. While I still cared deeply for my pack and would still do my best to do right by all of its members, I no longer felt the need to drop everything else for work.

For the past six years, I held this belief, which I suspected might damage the pack in some way. To my surprise, the pack was still healthy and strong. I guessed it never really needed me to watch it so closely to start with.

Since Keegan had only been around since I started this new work-life balance, he easily accepted my words. He probably even knew what I would say before he came in here to ask.

The minute my girls showed up, everything else faded away.

“Have fun tonight,” Keegan told me, and then each of the girls. “Have fun, Amy. Stacy.”

“We’re going to the shows with Daddy,” Stacy said matter-of-factly. “We’ll for sure have fun!”

Amelia’s POV

I finished getting dressed early, not wanting lan to be left waiting like before. I knew I had been terribly rude to him in the past, and wanted to try my best to rectify this behavior.

I promised Mom that I would try with Ian. That meant that I at least had to show some interest in him tonight.

It helped that we were going to the theater and wouldn’t have to be facing each other and talking, and maybe he was right, sharing an experience, a mutual interest, might help us feel closer to each other.

Mom glanced at me as I sat on the couch, concentrating very hard on how I should act tonight. I needed to laugh at his jokes and glance at him sometimes, but not too much. Was that how people flirted? I’d read a few magazines to prepare, but they weren’t all that helpful.

I needed to do all I could to try to make this relationship fun.

“You have a worry line between your brows,” Mom said, startling me from my thoughts.

Reaching up, I felt the line and tried to soothe it.

“Are you worried about tonight?” Mom asked.

“A little,” I admitted. “But I’m mostly just trying to plan how to act.”
