Ran Away Pregnant Came Back Alpha Heiress (Amelia and Damien) novel Chapter 248

Chapter 248

Amelia’s POV

For Stacy’s sake, I held my tongue, but inside I was rampaging, furious that this asshole would have the nerve to cheat on my sister! Who did he think he was to be treating her like that? No wonder she was trying to flee from him!

Did they reconcile before the end? Should they have?

I was so furious that my hands shook with it. But, for now, I had to compose myself. Stacy needed a Healer, not a furious aunt.

“Call her,” I said. “If she’s a match and consents, she will save Stacy’s life.”

That was my primary goal for wanting to meet this woman. A second, much less important reason, was that I wanted to see the person who Damien thought was good enough to cheat on Amelia with.

Damien’s POV

Annette was being cold to me all of the sudden, but there was no time to figure out how or why or what I could do to fix it.

Call her, she said so curtly.

There was no time to evaluate. Instead, I pulled out my phone and called Claire.

She didn’t answer on the first call, which annoyed me infinitely. Immediately, I called her again. And then a third time.

Finally, on the fourth time, she picked up. “This had better be important.”

Since suggesting the idea, I’d been thinking about how best to approach this with Claire. Right now, with her parents gone and Ethan exiled, she was the only one available to actually save Stacy’s life. Claire had not done many good and honest things for anyone in her life, but I hoped for Stacy’s sake, this could be the first.

Besides, it wasn’t as if Claire’s motives could be entirely selfless here. Stacy being near her helped stave off her own strange illness. To lose Stacy meant she would be weaker herself.

If I couldn’t depend on Claire to do the right thing, I could depend on her to keep her own self-interests in mind.

“It is important,” I told her. “Something is wrong with Stacy. She needs a blood transfusion and I’m not a match.”

One thing I had learned over the years when dealing with Claire was to keep every conversation as brief and to the point as necessary. She was a master manipulator, and looked for any opportunity to twist words and feelings around to make me the bad guy.

By now, I was used to it, but in this moment, I just didn’t have time to deal with her drama and bullshit.

Stacy’s life was on the line. Claire was a shitty person but she could still be a decent mother, if she did the right thing and saved her daughter’s life.

“The only other possible relative is you,” I said.

“There’s Ethan,” Claire said.

“He’s exiled.”

“You could un-exile him.”

“There’s no time for that,” I growled, quickly losing patience. “Don’t you care about Stacy? She could die while we are arguing.”

“My daughter is made of tougher stuff than that,” Claire said. “Whatever is going on, it can’t be all that dire.”

“I’m telling you, it is.”

“And I’m telling you, my bloodline is flawless! If there’s something wrong with our daughter, it is because of you!”

“I don’t care whose fault it is,” I snapped, having allowed myself to be baited. “I care about what we do to fix it. Blame me if that makes things easier. But come here and be tested. I’m sending my Beta to you. Get up here, as soon as you can, and save Stacy’s life.”

She was quiet for a long moment. I clutched my phone so hard it creaked under my hand. It nearly shattered, the screen cracking as she said, “What’s in it for me?”

“Are you serious?” I asked, my voice dangerously low.

“You’ve ruined my good faith in you, Damien. You want me to travel, even though I am sick myself. You ask me to save the girl you’ve denied me from raising. So my question is, again… What’s in it for me?”

I hated her, now more than even before. She was a vile kind of woman, and I couldn’t believe I had ever seen her as a proper surrogate for my child. She never deserved Stacy, not even to share her blood.

“If you come and get tested, we can talk about Ethan,” I said.

“You promise?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“You vow to the Moon Goddess?”

That was a vow I could not break even if I wanted to. But to save Stacy, I would have agreed to anything in that moment. “I swear it.”

“Good. Have your Beta honk when he gets here. I’ll be ready.”

Just as I was about to hang up the phone, I heard Claire say one more thing.

“I do hope I’m a match.”

I hung up and threw my phone across the room, realizing only after it had broken that I needed to contact Keegan.

Amelia’s POV

I watched Damien scramble as he searched for a new phone to finish making his phone calls. His anger after his call with Claire had surprised me. Their relationship seemed tumultuous at best, but unhealthy or no, that didn’t absolve him from cheating on my sister.

When his phone calls were done, he just looked tired. Walking to me, he said, “Can I see my daughter?”

As furious as I was at him, I would never deny a father time with his daughter. “She’s still asleep.”

“I just want to be near her.”

I nodded and showed him the way. Immediately, he went to his daughter’s bedside. He felt her forehead, and

brushed aside the hair from her cheeks.

“It’s going to be okay now,” he told her. “Daddy’s going to take care of everything.”

Watching the gentle way he treated his sick daughter warmed me from the inside out. Even if he was a lousy husband, he seemed to be a good father. At least there was something positive about him.
