**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 262**
**Chapter 262**
“Do you think Mom will be there?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, tinged with a mix of hope and anxiety.
“She has to be,” Stacy replied, her tone firm and reassuring. “Daddy’s really worried about it.”
I turned my gaze toward Dad, who was fussing with his tie, smoothing down his hair, adjusting his cuffs, and straightening the lapels of his suit jacket. This wasn’t like him at all. He was usually so composed, so in control. But today, he seemed like a bundle of nerves, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the thought of seeing Mom again that had him so worked up.
“I have a plan,” Stacy announced suddenly, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. I leaned in closer, my curiosity piqued. “To get Mom and Dad together.”
My heart raced at her words. Could it be? The idea of having Annette as our Mom all the time filled me with a warmth I hadn’t expected. “I want to help!” I exclaimed, my enthusiasm bubbling over.
“I’ll definitely need your help,” she replied, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “Especially since I can’t walk right now.” She glanced around the room, ensuring no one else could hear us, then leaned in closer, her voice barely audible. “We have to get Mom and Dad to dance.”
Yes! That was brilliant! I could already picture it in my mind—the two of them, lost in the music, their hearts reconnecting as they twirled around the dance floor. It was a classic movie moment, and it always seemed to work out perfectly in the films.
But then I remembered the obstacle standing in our way—Daddy. He was as stubborn as a mule, and while he was excited about seeing Annette, he also seemed to push her away at every turn. It felt as if he was afraid of finding happiness.
Well, Stacy and I were determined to change that.
“How will we do it?” I asked, my brow furrowing in thought. “Daddy’s not going to ask her.”
“If he won’t, you will ask for him,” Stacy said, a grin spreading across her face.
I felt a smile creeping onto my own lips. Yes, that was a perfect plan!
Just then, Dad glanced over at us, and we instantly straightened up, our expressions innocent, as if we hadn’t been plotting behind his back.
“Everything okay, girls?” Dad inquired, his brow slightly raised in concern.
