**Chapter 285**
**Amelia’s POV**
The air was thick with tension as I stood alone in the shadowy embrace of the forest, the trees looming like silent sentinels around me. “Who are you?” I called out, my voice trembling slightly as I scanned my surroundings. The rustling leaves and distant calls of night creatures filled the air, but there was no visible presence. It felt as if the voice had emerged from the depths of my mind rather than the world around me.
An unsettling chill ran down my spine. I felt trapped, though the source of my unease remained elusive. Was someone lurking in the underbrush, stalking me like prey? The thought sent a shiver through me.
“There’s no cause to be frightened. I am not here to harm you,” the voice reassured me, echoing in my thoughts.
I narrowed my eyes, my heart racing. “If that’s true, then why can’t I see you?” I demanded, frustration bubbling to the surface. “Show yourself!”
“I cannot, because I am a part of you,” the voice replied, calm and steady.
Time seemed to freeze as the realization dawned on me, like the first light of dawn breaking through a long, dark night. My dormant wolf…
“My name is Serena,” she announced, her voice resonating within me. “I am indeed your wolf.”
“You woke up,” I stammered, my mind racing. The fear that had gripped me moments before began to dissipate, replaced by a whirlwind of astonishment. This was not something I had anticipated in the slightest today.
“…yes. There is something very important I must speak with you about. It couldn’t wait,” she continued, her tone serious.
I felt a wave of overwhelming emotion crash over me, and I leaned against a sturdy tree for support, its rough bark grounding me. As I concentrated, I could sense her presence nestled within me, a gentle warmth in the shadowy recesses of my mind. Had she always been there, quietly waiting for the right moment to awaken? Now that I was aware, it was as if she had been waiting for me to notice her all along.
“You’ve done things today that I can’t approve of,” she stated firmly. “It goes against our nature to disobey the Alpha.”
Her words struck a chord within me, helping me regain my composure. My own wolf was going to oppose me on this? Shouldn’t we be in harmony, aligned in our thoughts and desires? Wasn’t she supposed to be my greatest ally?
“Then you understand,” I replied, a flicker of hope igniting within me.
“Yes.” A moment of silence stretched between us, thick with unspoken thoughts.
“I know he belongs to my sister,” I confessed, the weight of my admission heavy on my heart. “But I still have feelings for him. I can’t deny that.”
“If Alpha Jake finds out you are meeting with Damien in secret, there will be hell to pay,” she warned, her voice laced with concern.
“Then we don’t tell him,” I replied, my resolve hardening. “I know, going against the Alpha goes against our nature. But I… please. There are so many reasons I have to do this. Helping Stacy. Seeing Damien. Spending time with the kids. I can’t go back to the ivory tower Jake wants to keep me in, waiting for him to choose the next Ian he wants me to marry. I need to do some things for myself.”
My wolf remained silent, her presence a comforting weight in my mind, yet I could sense her internal struggle.
“Please. It’s important to me that I have your support,” I pleaded, my heart aching at the thought of being at odds with her, especially after being separated for so long. “Do I have it?”
