**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah 308**
**Chapter 308**
“No, no, your work is as impressive as ever,” Healer Eve reassured me, her voice warm and steady. “But there’s something… unusual about you today. When you’re not with the patients, I mean. You seem… preoccupied.”
“Oh!” I exclaimed, taken aback. “I’m sorry.”
“There’s no need for apologies,” she replied gently, waving her hand dismissively. “As I mentioned, your work remains unaffected. I’m just a bit worried about you personally. Is everything alright?”
“I’m fine,” I replied, attempting to infuse my smile with sincerity, hoping it would convey my reassurance. The truth, however, was tangled in my thoughts. I didn’t want to burden her with the haunting dream that clung to my mind like a shadow, replaying itself during every fleeting moment of solitude I had.
I was still grappling with the fragments of my dream, trying to understand why I had envisioned myself as Amelia. What could have driven me to such a vivid fantasy?
A torrent of questions surged through my mind, each one more perplexing than the last, leaving me feeling adrift. Without my memories, so much of my identity felt like an enigma, obscured in fog.
Could it be that I had harbored jealousy towards Amelia in the past? Was that the reason I found myself in a dream where I was fleeing with her husband?
Gods, I couldn’t fathom it.
Healer Eve scrutinized me, her gaze piercing through my facade. “Have you met someone? A man?”
Her question jolted me, pulling me from my spiraling thoughts like a lifeline. It felt so abrupt, so unexpected.
“What makes you think that?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
“Because,” she stated matter-of-factly, “the way you’re acting—your head’s in the clouds, and those doe-eyed looks you keep giving… If I were to take a wild guess, I’d say you’re in love.”
Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I was certain I was blushing furiously.
Eve raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in her eye as she caught my reaction. “That blush isn’t doing much to convince me otherwise. Are you in love, Annette?”
“I, uh… I…”
My mind erupted with vivid images of Damien, each one flashing before me like a chaotic slideshow—his laughter, his intensity, the way his presence made everything around me fade into the background.
