**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 311**
**Amelia’s POV**
Each time I had made the journey to the neighboring pack, it was always with a singular purpose: to spend time with Damien and the children. After my appointments, they would linger, offering their silent encouragement and companionship.
However, today was different. Today, I was embarking on this trek alone, heading to meet Jeffery for a consultation. It struck me just how much I had come to rely on the comforting presence of Damien and the girls. Their absence felt like a weight pressing down on my chest, making the air around me feel thick and suffocating.
The thought of recounting my past, especially this particular memory, was daunting. I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was better for the girls—so innocent and young—not to be burdened with the shadows of my fears, whether they were rooted in reality or just figments of my imagination.
But to confront this darkness all by myself…
I hesitated, my mind racing. No, I reminded myself firmly. Sienna would be there, providing her unwavering support. She would stand by me, helping me navigate through this storm.
Yet, a nagging doubt crept into my thoughts. Sienna was my sister, and I cherished her deeply, but I couldn’t help but recall Serena’s warning. I didn’t want to distrust Sienna, yet my heart ached for the solace that only someone else could provide.
As I prepared for the day ahead, dressing with a sense of purpose, I found myself contemplating the unthinkable: reaching out to Damien, begging him to come along.
What if he could arrange for someone to look after the girls, ensuring they wouldn’t overhear the painful narrative I was about to share?
What if he could slip away from his work commitments for just a few hours, to be there by my side?
But then reality struck me like a cold wave. What was I considering?
Damien and I didn’t share that kind of relationship anymore.
This was a journey I had to undertake alone, no matter how daunting it felt.
With a few hours stretching before me until my appointment, I decided to head downstairs, my footsteps echoing softly in the quiet house. The kitchen beckoned, and although my nerves twisted my stomach into knots, I felt the need to at least attempt to eat something. I didn’t want to face the emotional turmoil on an empty stomach, regardless of my appetite.
As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I spotted Jake emerging from the hallway. “Annette,” he called out, halting me in my tracks. “I was just looking for you.” His warm smile was disarming, a flicker of familiarity that made me want to forgive him for the hurt he had caused by denying Stacy the care she needed. “I thought maybe we could spend the day together.”
