**Night Whispers Forgotten Names – Colin Shah**
**Chapter 32**
“I can’t express how thrilled I am that we get to indulge in a bit more shopping for the baby,” Victoria exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Claire nodded enthusiastically, her heart swelling with gratitude. “I know, right? It was incredibly generous of Damien to hand me his card. He insisted I should get anything I need for the little one.”
A warm smile spread across Victoria’s face, her affection for Damien evident. “Honestly, it’s clear he’s already head over heels for that baby. And I can’t help but notice the undeniable bond that seems to be forming between you two,” she added, arching an eyebrow suggestively.
Claire let out a light laugh, a mix of amusement and contemplation. “It’s true. We’ve been part of each other’s lives for as long as I can remember, so there’s always been a closeness. But lately…” Her voice trailed off, a shadow crossing her features as she sighed deeply. “But it doesn’t change the fact that he’s still tied to that disgraceful runaway.”
Victoria waved her hand dismissively, as if brushing away the very notion of Claire’s worries. “Oh, come on. Damien is utterly repulsed by Amelia. The way she fled, shirking her responsibilities—it’s nothing but foolish pride on her part.”
Claire frowned, her brow furrowing with concern. “But still… they are married. They share a bond.”
“Damien has come to realize that bringing her into the pack was a colossal mistake. Who can even say if what he felt for her was truly a mate bond? I wouldn’t let that trouble you. To Damien, she’s merely unfinished business he needs to settle before he can concentrate on what truly matters: the pack and his family,” Victoria replied, her tone firm and reassuring.
I felt a chill run through me, as if ice had replaced the blood in my veins, at the implications of Victoria’s words. Was it possible that Damien questioned the bond we shared?
Victoria edged closer to Claire, unintentionally drawing nearer to where Lillian and I were concealed among the racks of clothing. Even though she lowered her voice, her words pierced through the air with a chilling clarity.
“And that hybrid in her belly? That abomination? There’s no way he’ll allow that child to compete with yours, Claire. When he finds her—and he will—she’s going to lose that baby,” she said, her tone dripping with malice.
I felt as though the ground had shifted beneath my feet, my heart racing at the horrifying revelation. Lillian reached through the clothing to grasp my hand, and I clung to her tightly, terrified I might faint from the weight of what I had just heard.
