Amelia’s POV
When the girls returned from breakfast, they joined Mom and me in the living room. For a while, we just chatted lightly, laughing and having a good time.
Amy seemed to have something on her mind though, as she didn’t smile and laugh as much as everyone else.
“What is it, Amy?” I asked her in a quiet moment, “What’s wrong?”
“Mommy,” Amy said. “Now that you are back, are you going to be pack Luna now?”
The question gave me pause, startling me slightly. It seemed to have come out of nowhere.
Dad looked a bit sheepish. “The girls were asking me about Luna’s during breakfast. They didn’t really have much frame of reference for what a Luna might do.”
That seemed odd. They were my children and I’d been right there beside them raising them for the past six years. Shouldn’t they have known what a Luna was just by knowing me?
Or, perhaps, it was more a question of how a tradition Luna would act. As a human, I had tried to fill that role but eventually became more detached as I was constantly denied acceptance. Maybe even after finding my wolf I had been distant with the role.
That had to be the reason. As we were a happy family and had been for the past six years, it was the only explanation that made sense.
It wasn’t as if Damien and I had been separated or something.
The thought alone was utterly ridiculous.
“What do you mean?” I asked Amy, hoping to glean new insight.
Mom spoke up before Amy could, “I’m sure she means attending events and being at Damien’s side for important things.”
I looked at her strangely. “I wasn’t doing that before?”
“Well…” Mom’s gaze shifted to the side, away from me.
Dad chimed in. “You had other matters that were important to you. You focused on those.”
That was a vague sort of answer. He must have meant that I was focused on raising the children. Yes, that I could believe. I was sure that I would have dedicated all of my time to being a good mother, rather than leaving my children in the care of a nanny to attend frivolous events.
Still… it seemed strange that I would shirk all of my pack duties, especially knowing how important the pack was to Damien.
Something didn’t feel right about this. No matter how I tried to make sense of this in my mind, coming up with excuse after excuse to defend my absent behavior, nothing really fully fit.
I didn’t want to trouble the children with this though. They wouldn’t know the full truth. And I couldn’t burden

Mom and Dad with something so personal to Damien’s pack.
The only person I could talk about this with was Damien himself.
1 held in all my curiosities until that evening, after everyone else had gone to bed, and Damien and I were in the guest room we were sharing together.
“Damien,” I said. He must have been able to tell that I had serious thoughts on my mind, because he stopped what he was doing to look at me. “Have I… not been performing my duties as pack Luna?”
His face immediately hardened, hiding his expressions behind a steely mask, “What makes you ask that?”
“It was something the kids said,” I told him. “They made it sound like I hadn’t been a very good Luna.”
Damien blinked and something in his eyes cleared. “It hasn’t been your fault.” He cleared his throat, “You remember that the pack had never been the best at accepting you. I hoped to… protect you from their comments by keeping you away from them.”
“So I just hid away?” I asked. The memories of being bullied were still fresh, and while I could see that keeping me away from fulfilling my duties for a time, I didn’t think it would stop me forever.
As Damien’s wife, I had a responsibility to fulfill Luna duties. And as the kids grew older, I was sure that I would have wanted to provide a good example for the children and the pack.
Especially after discovering I had a wolf of my own, I wasn’t sure that I would keep hiding away, even if that was what I had been doing. My wolf would have given me strength and courage. Anyone who tried to belittle me would have had their sharp remarks thrown right back at them by the mere presence of my wolf.
I just didn’t understand.
“Don’t fret,” Damien said. He came toward me and then traced his hands up and down my arms, offering comfort. “I didn’t know it was important to you. From now on, I will make sure you are included.”
I nodded. That did make me feel a bit better about the future, even if I didn’t fully understand the past.
“Thank you,” I told him, and he kissed me.
I forgot about everything for a while, after that.
The next day, it was decided that our family would go to the movies. It was only meant to be an innocent thing, just a fun family outing. Yet, as soon as we stepped outside of the gates of the estate, we were swarmed by reporters and people.
I was confused, especially as people were calling my name and taking my picture.
In my ear, Damien told me, “Anything involving two Alphas is big news. The fact that we are bound by family makes for a good story for the press.’
Ah. That made sense, and in that way, I was glad that we could show a united front.
With Damien on the left of me and Jake on the right, I felt suddenly very important, like I was a part of something bigger. Maybe a cause for peace between two rival packs.
As the world snapped my picture and called my name, I started to feel like the Luna I was always meant to be,

and I beamed at the crowd, hoping they would think well of me at last.
Damien’s POV
Some of the lies were harder to uphold than others. It helped that Amelia was so trusting of me, though that only made the guilt I felt at lying to her twenty times worse.
Still, seeing her so easily step into a public role as my pack Luna, I felt nothing but pride. She was truly fearless, versatile, and bright. In this moment, I didn’t think there was a single thing she couldn’t accomplish, or that we couldn’t accomplish together.
