Chapter 418

Sienna’s POV

The night I spent in lan’s arms was the best night of my life. Sure, he wasn’t the world’s most attentive lover, and I had to put in most of the work, but he was still there, he was still hot and hard for me. And when we both found release, it was my hips he grabbed hold of. My neck he latched onto.

Amelia could never.

In the afterglow, in the stillness of the morning, lan’s arms weren’t around me, but I was still pressed up against him, enjoying his warmth. I was still in his bedsheets, in his bed, no longer forced to imagine what this place would look like.

“Was it good for you?” he asked me.

“Yes,” I replied. I smiled at him, thinking he might want to have another go before I would have to retreat back into the basement. I wondered what they others would think when I sneaked downstairs. Would they be surprised that Ian had finally fallen for me like I had for him?

Ruth would probably have a heart attack.

Or, perhaps not. Maybe she would be proud that I found a wealthy man of my own. I couldn’t help but smile, thinking of becoming his mate and his wife, of having children. Already, I was planning our entire future together, and I couldn’t wait to experience it in full.

“I have something to ask you, Sienna,” he said. “And I’m hoping what just happened might help change things for you.”

My heart lifted up into my throat. No way he was already proposing?

Yes was already on the tip of my tongue. All he had to do was ask, and I would answer so quickly it would make his head spin.

We could elope and be married by the end of the day. We could start trying for children by this evening.

I braced myself, my excitement already sky high.

Ian looked at me and asked, “Won’t you consider siding with Claire and me, in getting our revenge against Amelia and her family?”

At once, my heart went from flying high to crashing all the way down to the ground so hard that it left a mark in the pit of my stomach.

“What?” I asked, hoping I had misheard.

“We’re together now,” he said. “So I expect you to be on my side about things. This is no exception.”

I blinked a few times, trying to fully comprehend what was happening here.

“We can talk about this,” I said. “Now that we are together, wouldn’t it be better to just focus on us?”

“So you refuse to support me,” Ian said. He started to lean back away from me. “Maybe it’s time for you to get dressed and go back downstairs.”

I could feel a wall being built up between us, and it hurt, especially after the beauty of what we had just done.

Reaching for him, I grabbed his arm. “Wait.”

“I don’t want to hear it,” Ian said. “Either you are with me all the way or you are against me. You can’t have it both ways. What happened last night will never happen again.”

“What if I change my mind?” I said quickly. “I could see things differently. I want to support you. I do. If this is what you want…”

I was desperate not to lose him. If he needed me to support him in this revenge to keep him at my side, then that was what I would do.

I would do anything he wanted if it meant keeping his favor.

For so long, I had dreamed about having him like this. Now that I did have him, I wasn’t going to let him go so easily.

No matter what I had to do to keep him, I would.

He started to smile again. Leaning in to kiss me once more, he whispered, “Good girl.”

I didn’t stand a chance.

Damien’s POV

I was absolutely exhausted, my body beyond aching. Now, I just felt pain.

I needed a break, but my mind wasn’t willing to let me take one for long. Instead, I headed to the Alpha headquarters building to at least check in with my Alpha duties. There, I could rest my body for a time while still feeling like I was accomplishing something.

Unfortunately, any hope I had for an easy day immediately evaporated. I had barely stepped into the hallway my office was attached to before three different council members stopped me to request a meeting.

Less than an hour later, I was sitting in the meeting room at one end of a table with the whole of the council – minus Clare, of course – sitting in front of me.

I was so tired that I was already agitated. This meeting was a horrible idea, but no one would listen to me. They were insistent, saying that I couldn’t keep avoiding them.

Here we were now.

“The Alpha King is coming to visit,” the head of the council said. “We’ve all heard his demands for this event, that Claire and Sienna be captured before he arrives. I think that we need to prepare for the inevitability that this will not happen.”

“That is not inevitable,” I said. “Alpha Jake and I are out there ourselves tracking them down.”

“With no results,” the head of the council said. “It does us no harm to be prepared for worst-case scenarios.”

“Things have been tense around here,” said another member. “Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad for the Alpha King to step in as he’s threatened.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” I snapped. My exhaustion left little room for patience, and I was already both too curt and unable to do anything about it.

“The pack remains divided,” replied the council member, who must have been feeling bold today. “You did not even consider the possibility of moving Claire’s trial to our pack.”

Claire would have never been able to have a fair trial here. She would have gotten off too easily, just as she had all the times before.

That wasn’t something I could tell them though, even with my frustration so high.

“Alpha King Benedict would have considered it,” the man said.

“He would consider a lot of things,” said another. “Maybe it is time we had fresh eyes in our leadership.”
